Assuming cost, tags, and time were not limiting factors, what would you not be willing to hunt if the opportunity was available?

Can’t think of anything. In fact I’m going to SA just to shoot zebras, and giraffes better keep their heads down. The thing that I get the least amount of joy from shooting is whitetails, they bore me. I hunt them because it’s hunting.

I personally don’t mind killing much of anything.
I’d Harpoon a whale if I had an opportunity. I don’t have a desire to hunt bear but if I was hunting elk or deer and saw a bear I would take the shot
Animals that don’t excite me however are numerous, most African species (Cape buffalo for instance do nothing for me ).
Methods of take and attractiveness of animals play into it more than ethics

Well call me worthless--but I love to shoot Zebra--meanest damn critter to hunt...first stallion I shot took 3 well placed rounds of 9.3x62. I have taken Giraffe. A bull and some in a cull hunt. While I would probably not do it again , I had no problem with it. Elephant hunting is grand sport--lots of tracking and up close looking and truly hunting your quarry--can be dang exciting too. Love to hunt sheep and goats--a Tur hunt is probably the most adventure you can have for under $10k. Bighorn sheep hunting is grand sport too--wish I had a pocket full of money to do it everyday. I have hunted behind high fence and in country that you could get lost in...both had different animals with different goals and expectations. When I read thru comments above I think--hunters do themselves this own disservice--squabbling about if it is high fence or not--or should you shoot a zebra. I love to hunt, be outdoors, see nature...the kill is minor...the kill is usually taking of a animal that will better the herd, and put dollars toward keeping deer in the field or sheep on the hill. Sometimes I question folks--that or so adamant about one thing or another. African hunting has come up--most that I see comment about high fence African hunting have never been--or even seen an operation. I have been to Africa 6 times on Safari. 2 times I hunted a high fenced place. My family and I hunted a place that was 19,122 ac. It is a beautiful ranch, that is filled with game--and not once did I feel like I was "shooting fish in a barrel". I have also spent hard earned money and seen very little due to super dry conditions in a consession. Not fun.
Not not be too long winded is I like to hunt, now if I had to chose I care not to shoot cats-- I have hunted Leopard and helped hunt Lion--it doesn't get me excited. I have hunted black bear--Ok for once but Grizzly would not be at the top of my list. Other than that--I hope my legs can continue to take me up the hill, across the pasture, or hell for that matter behind the fence. Happy hunting!

Just ignore the ignorant, they are not worth responding to.

There isn’t anything legal to hunt in North America that I wouldn’t take once.
There’s a few things in Africa I could care less about (think tiny 10). Zebras are a weird one, I don’t have much desire to shoot a horse, but I wouldn’t mind having a couple zebra rugs. My wife would probably divorce my over most of the big cats. A Leopard is really the only one I would be interested in, but a bit out of my price range.

What is people’s hang ups about hunting cats? Is it cause they are pretty?
Back in the day I watched a couple of kids and a mom walk up to the picture board at sportsman’s warehouse.
Lady sees a picture of a guy with a leopard and says “man that is so wrong”. The kids say “yeah Mom that is so wrong”
I’m like “ hey lady you are in a HUNTING store!”
Maybe she should shop at REI with the rest of the nature park people
I don’t understand why people recoil over killing a big cat. Yes they are pretty and a predator. They are also not immortal and will die one day if left to their own devices

I’ve killed a long tailed cat while deer hunting. He was sitting under some rimrock during the daytime. I’d love to run one with dogs. Any kind of hunting with dogs is much better. I’d probably still enjoy deer hunting if I could do it with hounds.

For me, many of the big cat species got on the endagered list, and are now slowly rebounding. Guess I've seen enough nature shows that have shown how hard their life is as a predator. Just getting a kill, then keeping that kill from other predators. I guess I've got a certain respect for them.
But hey, if someone hunts, kills, and harvests one legally, that's none of my business.

Tried talken guy at foundry inta going on a polar bear hunt. Had it all figured out.
Do it yourself hunt. Stop by a scuba diving store, rent out a wet suit with flippers. All he had ta do is slip inta the wet suit, move around on his belly on the snow & ice with the flippers on his hands barking like a seal & when it charged i'd choot-it.
Thinken polar bears was off his list.

Killing a giraffe or elephant is no different than killing a mouse...except in your mind. Some are regulated as per population and the laws put in place, but there is no difference except in the thought process.

i have noinclination on hunting quail but i will eat them everyday if i could.
i honestly believe i killed every quail within 10 miles of the ranch when i was younger, mostly with a 22 single shot with shorts by head shooting them around the grain silos. didnt see a single one of even hear one until 2008 on my place when a pair showed up in yard at the wifes bird feeder. i spent LOTS of money and time working with a biologist from TAMU Kingsville out here planting native grasses and such to help them survive, and now i average 17 a covey and anywhere from 9-11 coveys flushed a day on my little 2200 acres of paradise.
everything wants to eat quail and i guess im getting soft in my old age but i like to see them and hear them, makes me feel like im taking good care of my land. no want to kill them anymore
but my son in law has a damn fine bird dog and i do go with him out here a few times a year just to watch the dog work

Usually anthropomorphism, ease of killing, or both. For me, a giraffe is both unique in appearance and appears easy to kill - so zero interest.
It is expressed on the opposite end of the spectrum by observing how much vitriol/anger there is against coyotes and hogs - folks hate them just doing what they do. (I am guilty of it myself.)

If it's legal I would hunt anything, so apes are out as they are not legal to hunt anywhere. In Africa I shot a dog that was inside the high fence, PH said shoot it it's a poachers dog.
Giraffes are hard to hunt, they have the advantage of the high ground watching for predators, very hard to approach. Many people don't hunt them as the trophy is hard to display unless a full body mount, $$$$, and you have a 20' ceiling to put it under. The head and neck mount (Loch Ness Monster) is creepy.
Zebras have excellent senses and with the herd there is always a few watching. Don't sell short donkeys, we have wild ones in Arizona and the can be extremely hard to approach even though the "have not been hunted" in 40+ years.

I could shoot an ostrich in a heart beat, they taste good, good lean meat. Besides they are too damn ugly to let them live. As to zebras and giraffes, only if I really needed the meat, in my opinion they are not trophy animals.

A mountain zebra hunt in Namibia is indeed a very challenging trophy hunt IMO. They are very spooky, never stay still, and very beautiful. We walked 9 miles before I finally got a chance to kill one. Surprisingly they are extremely tasty.....backstraps over the open fire are fantastic.

Some say, that when it comes down to that moment when you are going to pull the trigger on a monkey, it is hard to do because of their human-like characteristics. I never looked at a monkey that way so I think I wouldn't even hesitate. But then I think I would hunt any animal, and I stand a chance at stalking a sloth.

There has never been a desire for me to hunt anything in or go to Africa. I have no desire to hunt for bear, turkey, ducks, geese, bison, elk, caribou or reindeer anywhere. The only sheep or goat species anywhere in the world I would hunt would be in Texas for the Desert Bighorn. For me the list would be much shorter on what I would hunt since I mainly like to hunt whitetail and mule deer every year. My bucket list would also include moose and pronghorn(I have killed Red Deer in NZ off of that list).

I knew a fella that liked to hunt Africa, and he thoroughly enjoyed shooting monkeys. The natives loved it, too, because they would destroy their fruit crops. Apparently the monkeys had quite a time eating some of the fruit and throwing the rest at each other. He said they’d shoot one, and the rest would run to the tops of the trees and pull branches in front of their face to hide. After a minute of hiding, their curiosity would be too much, and they’d slowly open the branches to take a peak. The shooters would wait for the opening and shoot through it.

At one time I would have said elephant, zebra, lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe, and hippo. Now I’m not so sure. At one time I didn’t really have a desire to kill predators, not sure why, just didn’t. I think now I’d hunt most animals if the methods/circumstances were right for me.
Last year when I went to Africa my wife made me promise not to kill a zebra, and at the time i was fine with it, so it was no big deal, but after encountering them numerous times and seeing several rugs up close it became an interest, because there’s few trophies that represent Africa like a zebra. My PH answered someone’s question about why would anyone shoot a horse by asking the hunter (another Texans) if he’d shoot a coyote. Of course the hunter replied, “he’ll yeah”, the PH asked him why would anyone shoot a dog. Then he said a zebra is no more a horse than a coyote is a dog. Never thought of it that way.

lol. I think there is a little bit of a crossover of the discussions on the different forums here.

I would like to hunt everywhere, Africa, Alaska, NZ, etc... but I agree there are a few animals that I don't think I would book a hunt for such as an elephant, rhino andgiraffe. Pretty much everything else is on the menu if I am in good enough shape to chase it!!

I changed my mind I’d hunt an African animal. I’d hunt a warthog but no way in hell I’d go to that chithole country to do it. I did hear of some in south Texas so maybe it will happen one day.

Do coyotes remind you too much of dogs?

I bet they do. I’ve heard they’re very good eating, too.

Giraffe, Zebra, Wart Hog, Monkey, Sloth, or Ape. Musk Ox, Baby seal, Bear, Pen raised birds, Diver ducks, High fence hunts of any variety. I have no qualms with anyone who enjoys any or all of these, but for various reasons they are not my gig.

Lots of stuff I have no desire to hunt at this point in my life. I mainly like to hunt birds, hogs, deer and coyotes. Not saying I wouldn't harvest a different species if given the chance, but there's nothing that I can really say I have a burning desire to hunt.

No baby seals? I hear it's a very exciting archery hunt.

I think if elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, zebras and rhinos were over populated pest, a lot of votes would change.
The sympathy vote has gone a long way here.

Nah. Maybe if I lived in the arctic and needed some mukluks I might reconsider....
Some of the African animals. I've never had a desire to hunt Africa.

Taiga antelope and tapir at the top of the list. Any type of monkey/ape.
Giraffe, warthog, bushpig, cheetah, white/black rhino, elephant, hippo, hyena, wild dog, dik-dik, duiker, klipspringer.
Brown/grizzly bear, polar bear, walrus, whale.
Tiger, India/Sumatran rhino.
Anything piebald, melanistic, or albino.
That's all I can think of.

I don't hunt anything that I'm not interested in eating.
Now if I'm sitting in the stand and an old coyote rolls through at bow range. He is gonna get an arrow somewhere within 5 yards of him.

Rhino. I have a soft spot for rhinos. When God made all the animals he gave them each a skin, a needle, and thread to sew it on. The poor blind rhino lost his and had to borrow the elephant's, which is why his skin doesn't quite fit right.
Oh, and I couldn't hunt dolphin, because Stewart.

Just a story. I don't take it seriously, of course, but I do have a soft spot for rhinos.

Nope. I think cheetahs are cool and the others hold absolutely zero interest to hunt. If I wanted to hunt zebras I’d go blast a horse in a pasture somewhere

If it isn't native to North America, it isn't on my list. I would probably still hunt a couple of them if invited, but they aren't on the list.
