Would Remedy keep the animals away? - 09/22/17 11:16 PM

I set up a deer feeder in the midst of a bunch of mesquite trees,,,, used Remedy mixed with diesel to poison the mesquites all around the area ---------- It's been 3 weeks, and no animals,,, no deer, hogs, raccoons, birds, nothing is touching the corn------------ could the remedy be keeping the animals away.?

I think you have established cause and effect and answered your own question.

Can't you just shoot one behind your house?

Hogs are often attracted to diesel. It's often used as bait. Not sure about the deer.

Around 2008 in Erath we were using Remedy & diesel as basal treatment on anything we didn't want growing on 650+ acres. This was done slowly because of desireable hardwoods, wild plum thickets, etc and some areas we came back again where we missed a few. I don't recall any lack of game during that time. YMMV

Question I do have, was there much wildlife around where you put this feeder.

yeah I bet if us humans had to rely on our senses in the wild to survive we would be more in tune with it all and realize what it is we put out there and wouldn't wonder why animals don't come around as much...

diesel stinks

There is another feeder about 200 yrs away and a creek about 200 yrs away ,, lots of hogs up and down the creek-------- deer at the other feeder. Tryng to decide, move the feeder, or just wait it out. I have heard about diesel for hogs ------- that's why I was wondering if it was the remedy -- the field is sunflowers, and a reasonable # of doves,,,, even they are not eating the corn. The feeder is about 30 yds into the mesquites.

LOL, you made a mini superfund cleanup site. No, it isn't just the Remedy. The notion that diesel attracts hogs seems to be something of a misunderstood myth. People put it on corn, but that is to keep other animals from eating it, that hogs will eat anything, but that doesn't stop other animals from eating it sometimes and doesn't seem to actually improve the attractiveness of the corn. I know, people swear by it, grape KoolAid, strawberry jello, soured corn, and everything else under the sun but when push comes to shove, the hogs are coming for the corn.

Diesel, yes it will, for a long time.
Use Remedy and basil oil or dishsoap and water.
It will work the same.

Have treated mesquite and other brush with remedy and diesel before and never noticed it keeping stuff away.

Sometimes it just takes a while before a new feeding site kicks off. We put up a new free choice protein feeder this year about 50 yards off of one of our long time best producing corn feeders right on a heavily used trail an after a month it was still brimming full. Every other protein feeder on the place fed empty in less time, the next month they ate 1/2 of it and we filled it and the 3rd month they ate it empty just like the rest of the feeders. Just takes them a little bit some times.
