Gun safe and moving

Need to move a well built 5'H X 2.5'W X 2'D gun safe from one room in my house to another. No steps, stairs, etc. What would you use?

If hard floors, just put carpet under it and slide.

Use 1" diameter (or what every your have) pipe. You can put a piece of plywood down to protect the floor or even some thin runners to roll the pipe on. Just keep moving a piece to the front as it comes out the back of the safe.
Like above if on hard floor. I have a set of sliders that we use to move furniture and they really help.

Like said above! Slide on rug!

If you have a bucket of golf balls, they work great.

I have an appliance dolly with kick out legs, works great.

The guy that delivered my safe used a coffee can full of golf balls as mentioned above. He had the safe tilted back on a heavy duty dolly, laid down two trails of golf balls a little narrower that the width of the safe, tilted the safe onto the lines of golf balls and rolled it around like it was on casters. Several times he had to pick the balls up from behind the safe and place them in front.

Golf balls are the easiest if its already in the house. Use a pry bar and something for fulcrum to get one edge up to start. Golfballs will break your tile and dent your hardwood, so use some masonite or plywood as floor covering if you need to.

If you have a kickback dolly they work well, just be careful as I know a guy that broke his feet moving a safe via kickback. There are different size appliance dollies and obviously different size safes so make sure you have one big enough for the job.

4 Wheeler furniture dolly should work also

When we brought mine in we used a fridge dolly to get it in the front door onto the carpet, then I put four of the biggest furniture sliders I could find and slid it into the back room. I had ordered a bag of golfballs from amazon at the same time I ordered the sliders but ended up not needing them.

Used an appliance dolly for ours, no legs on it, but no trouble either.

Rug sliders work really well. I just moved my safe to have new carpeting installed. I used 4 saucer size sliders, one on each corner.
Make sure you empty the safe before you try to move it.

Depending on how far it is, the weight of the safe, and the condition of your floors, it's not really expensive to have professionals move it. I had a 1300lb safe moved from a buddies house to mine for $350. They had proper equipment, lifts, etc and left no damage to either home, and they did it rather quickly. The safe is on my hardwood floors and they put some felt underneath the safe to protect floor.

I agree if you are moving it far. the pros are great at this

If you get a 4 wheel flat dolly get a good oak one with rubber wheels. Cheaper ones made out of chinese banana wood with plastic wheels bring the suck. These guys usually have good pricing on moving equip, I buy quite a bit down there.

Like other said, golfballs. Mine is 1750#s I believe. I moved it now problem with golf balls.



FYI, you have a fulcrum built into the safe.......door. Open the door at about a 45 degree angle. Grab the top corner furthest from safe and pull down. Insert golf balls under rear of safe as door is pulled down. Worked like a camp on my safe.
