On THE Way

On THE Way - 11/22/15 01:07 PM

Headed to northern Alberta for a late season moose and whitetail hunt, with the possibility of a wolf as well.

United already broke my spirit by canceling my flight from Midland to Houston at 2:30 this morning, ended up having to reschedule and drive to Lubbock to get to GP on time. Spent an hour and a half on hold to get that done and my return flight still goes back to Midland... Lovely.

Basically have a week of keeping myself from freezing to death on the deer stand in front of me. Luckily it should only get down in the negatives and most days in the teens for the high and only calling for snow on one day. Could be worse.

This is my first hunt out of Texas other than duck hunting in South Louisiana and definitely the first travelling out of the states with a rifle in tow. So far, that part was easy. Seems like Lubbock is just big enough that the check-in agents knew what they were doing and there was light enough passenger traffic this morning that the TSA was quick about it. Though the security line guys opened up my carry-on to look at a headlamp... Updates and hopefully photos of cool stuff to follow.

cheers Goodluck. I hope you took plenty of warm clothes. First time I stepped of a plane in Calgary it was 29 degrees that was the highest temp we saw for the next 4 days of opening week of deer season in Nov. eek But the hunting was great that year. Definitely was temperature shock. Left Texas and it was 84 deg to stepping off the plane 4.5 hrs later to 29.

Luckily shouldn't be too bad as far as temperature shock. 25 degrees in Midland this morning. Should be about the same when I land, but doesn't get any warmer through the week.

Midlander indeed. At least for the last 3.5 years (this time).

Next time wear a towel on your head and you'll sail right through.

1 flight cancelled, 1 flight delayed, which caused 1 flight missed. Next flight in 4 hours. Day started at 2:30 CST. To sum up... I need a nap. I could have driven to Grande Prairie from Calgary in less time than I have got stuck in Calgary.

Oh yeah, just comical my travelling. The wife and I went to Costa Rica earlier this year and had the exact same thing happen for that trip. 2:00am phone call lettig us know our flight was cancelled, but it was okay because they had rescheduled for the same flights the next day. I'm not one to lose a day somewhere cool, so that led to over an hour on hold with American, finally got back on the original flight out of Dallas that left at 9:30am. Drove the 4 1/2-5hours to DFW in time to make the flight. Apparently it's impossible to fly out of Midland in the dark. I literally think they cancel those flights because they can't find anyone to work the front desk that early.
