A trespasser thread - 09/09/15 01:39 AM

2nd year on our lease, only one guy got a couple deer last year. No biggie. Wanted this place to go fish, hang out, get outta town, and kill some pigs. The deer are nothing to brag about, but decent chance for some big oinkers. We went out yesterday to fill feeders, fish, and hopefully shoot some pigs. We arrived just after morning light, get of of the truck on the edge of the field to start glassing. Start the trek across the field and see a black shape--could it be?!? YES! A pig! Start creeping along, and get closer by keeping the tall grass between us and our target. Making good progress and look over at another black shape at our 9 o'clock, lying still in the stubble of the freshly-cut grass. WTF is that? A sleeping pig? No way...we walk up to it to find a bullet hole in its head, fresh blood--so fresh the flies haven't even found it. We look around and count 1,2,3,4 more dead pigs, all fresh. Ok, focus back on the original target pig. As we resume our stalk, we see it's laying down as well, but still alive. It's back is broken, so at 50yds, I put a suppressed 5.56 round through its head. We hear an engine start and a vehicle drive off but don't see anything. Frustrated, we go check the cameras, thinking we'd see the guy the guy that's been haying the field shoot them out of his tractor. No big deal if it was...but it isn't. The field was cut the 31st; not yesterday. Dang cameras were at the wrong angle to catch whoever did it. Landowner is surprised, and seemed genuinely concerned. Said he'd put some feelers out to find out who is hunting without permission. Could it be a simple mistake? Maybe. But I'm sure burnt up about driving out there and having pigs shot out from under us that morning. Guess it's time for more cameras. Silver lining is we saw a lot of pigs and some decent bucks on camera. The rain sure helped!

I thought about that, with as many dead pigs as there was. But I'd think we'd hear em--blood was FRESH. And the fact we heard that vehicle driving off makes me think we strolled in as they were walking out.

Somebody doesn't like your hogs Im guessing. Did the land owner put out a hit on them?

I assure you it is not a mistake. I get them all the time and it is always locals that know I don't live on the place.
Heck I had a bunch of dove hunters out first day a three guys drove in like they owned the place.

I'm hoping the landowner finds who did it, or at least word gets back to them so they know we're on to em.

People are unbelievable. With today's technology in game cameras you'd have to be a fool to trespass and/or poach on any land.

I doubt the landowner cares who shoots the pigs as long as they get shot

Yeah, I thought about that, too--but I'd bet he starts caring if we don't pay him.

Sorry to hear it. Some people view stuff like this as trivial/meaningless, all you lost was a couple hogs etc. but its a blatant disreguard for others property.

I hunt and spend a significant portion of my income on hunting/hunting supplies and time preparing for hunting. When you arrive on your mini vaca to discover someone has been trespassing it just blows up your whole weekend.

If you do get more cameras don't forget to put up an occasional second camera to watch a new camera for when the thief steals the new camera.

You say you heard a vehicle start up and drive off?
I would find the spot where that vehicle was parked or where it drove in and put a camera up there!
Chances are they will be back!
