2nd elk rifle season - 11/10/14 12:38 AM

I have a good idea of where I'm going to hunt elk next year because I know the terrain really well. Just wondering what elevation y'all hunt that season.. I know snow makes a big difference, I'm just trying to get an idea where to start hunting..

Lots of snow hunt low, small snow amounts stay high

Depends on your alttitudes Ive got 3 places in Steam Boat colorado that I rifle hunt if there isnt that much snow im up around 9,800-11,000 if there is alot of snow im down around 8,000-9,000. If im up at my parents place outside of Ridgewway Colorado, then im at 9,800-11,200 and if there is alot of snow up there you might aswell not go cause the elk already moved to lower ground for feed.

That's what I was thinking.. I'm on the fence on either going archery or rifle. I like the idea of rutting bulls for archery but being able to thump them at 1000 yards sounds good too..

We ran into a lot of bulls around 8500-9500. It was unseasonably warm, and there was a lot of sign from the rut, so they were there during bow season, too.
