Laser range finder

Laser range finder - 10/07/14 11:16 PM

Does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive laser range finder?
Only need it to reach 150-200 yards
I am taking my wife deer hunting with me opening day
I can't afford to spend a lot, so it needs to be in the $100.00- $200.00 price range
I know I can't get a good one for that price range, but if it gives me an idea about the range, to help her out, it would work
I am trying to make her first deer hunting trip the best I can

What rifle or weapon are you shooting? Most should be able to hold elevation easily out to 200 yards.

You really don't need a rangefinder for that range with that rifle.

Sight in that 7mm-08 3" high at 100 yards and forget about the range finder.

EBay is littered with them. I've been watching them for a while and you can get a $300+ RF for under $200 shipped to your door. Since this is kind of a one-time/limited use deal, I'd look for a Bushnell 450 which will more than do the job for you, and can be had for about $80.

If you sight in at 100 yards, you will be about 1.5" low at 200 yards. IMO, no LRF needed.

Nikon from Academy! It has worked fine for me for years and years...love it.

Like they all said... You'd be wasting money. You really don't need one unless you're bow hunting or shooting at more than 200 yards IMO.

These guys are spot on. The 7-08 is a flat shooter, and if sighted in correctly will shoot any deer that she is comfortable holding on out to nearly 300 yds without adjusting the hold.

Here is data from a chart showing Mid Range Trajectory (3" high at 140yds) and Point Blank Range (287yds, 285yds respectively) if sighted in 2.6" high at 100 yds for a couple of 7mm-08 rounds:

Cartridge_____Bullet_____________BC______100yds____200yds____MRT_____PBR
7mm-08 Rem.___(120 Sp at 3000)__.343_____+2.6"_____+2.0"___3"@140___287yds
7mm-08 Rem.___(140 BT at 2860)__.485_____+2.6"_____+1.9"___3"@140___285yds

Get a cheap one, I can tell you it will make for more confident shooting at any range when you know the exact range.
