Deluxe Ghillie Suit - Which type do you use for dove?

With dove season fast approaching I am curious which brand of ghillie suit the THF hunters use? Let's hear what works for you.

Time is getting short to stock-up on everything we need for a succesful dove season.

I wear one similar to the one you linked when in my layout blind. I don't recall the brand, I got it at the surplus store. It came with a jacket, pants, and hat with mask. I don't really like the mask though, as it blocks my mouth and hinders my ability to use my dove call, so I usually just use face paint instead.

Mine simulates an electric high line.

Something like this from BPS, you can catch them on sale sometimes.

I like the Sunflower and Hay Grazer pattern with the Croton oil scent option.

Do you really feel a full out ghillie suit just to hunt doves? I've been hunting doves 10+ years and I do just fine in camo T-shirt and blue jeans...

I mean I could MAYBE understand if you were in a layout or duck or goose hunting... But dove?

I would be more worried about heat exhaustion than a few dove seeing you.

I just broke out in a sweat looking at that thing - 104 today and probably still in 90's on opening day.
Snake boots - camo shorts and shirt and that is too much!

White shirt, jeans, ball cap, and beer. All that's needed for dove......and shotgun can't forget that, even though I'd be fine with just the beer lol

The Ghille may provide a tactical advantage.

If the dove
1) Do not see the hunter they will
2) Be more likely to land next to your mojo and,
3) Save shells by shooting them on the ground

Ghillie suit (snicker).... it's WAAAAYYYY to hot in Texas for anything like that! My dove huntin ghillie suit is camo tee shirt (or maybe just a game vest) shorts and hiking boots.

I could spot those white socks at 1000 meters easily.

I just grow my chest and back hair out and go shirtless. Same net effect.

I've shot my limit of birds sitting on the tail-gait of my truck.

How's that for a tactical advantage?

Camo tee and what ever pants are clean. Oh, and a hat to keep my shiny bald head from getting sun burned. Although after seeing that super sweet bird suit i might switch to that.

Going to be a bad season. In almost 400 miles we saw very few dove today.

I've never worn anything much more than a camo shirt or net cover. I did spray paint the white 5 gal bucket I use to sit on though.

I have blue buckets from Lowes, it will fool the dove into thinking they are small ponds of water.

I hunt dove in a t-shirt and jeans, usually sitting on my tailgate.

I've got the materials sitting in the shop to build a ghillie, but not a snowball's chance in hell I'm wearing it in 90 degree dove weather. Winter time coyotes, now that's another story.

Long sleeve camo shirt, camo pants, shotgun, vest, beer, buddy(s)all that is needed.

Yes...tailgate hunting is illegal so check yourself before you wreck yo self. also, to the OP...great job on making half of the THFers think that you were seriously considering wearing a G suite while on a dove hunt. Well Done. Some of you should be ashamed.

This is how northerners hunt for doves, apparently. Taken from Outdoor Life magazine last year and still cracks me up every time I see it.

last year I got a last minute invite to a dove weed field and was wearing shorts should have thought that through but still had a good time

Until now, I never even thought of a gilly for dove, maybe that has something to do with my 1 bird per box "handicap

Me as well, except I was getting shade from an umbrella. Red and white.

Shorts. Teeshirt and a camo cooler

Camo tshirt, cargo shorts (any color), hat (any color), and boots (socks optional).

This and my camo ballcap.

Camo shirt and hat,blue jeans and snake boots. 20 gauge. Sunglasses. Cooler for the unlucky birds.

I like the look of this one, but the scope really caught my eye. I love classic optics, so I tend to notice a great pair of covers.

Can't tell without handling, but I'm willing to bet that those lens covers are real and natural, as opposed to some of the newer imported silicone synthetics. To each his own, but I feel that a high dollar scope like that needs a great pair of lens covers.

BTW, the photographer was clever in setting up this shot with the lenses only partially exposed, giving the viewer the impression of the scope being ready for action without being too "in your face."

Dunno and don't want to know - because I have at least three daughters older than her But most bathing suits show more than this, these days!

But I still think that the scope covers look like the old natural style, and not the newer silicon models. Hard to tell without touching them. Not my rifle, not my scope so I have no idea how they feel.

I have been checked sitting on the tailgate several times and not ever been told that.

It's hard to tell because the differences can be subtle. Seems like you would need to take a hands on approach and get up close to decide.

Yep - unless you have a physical condition described in the regulation. Just sit on a folding chair by the tail gate. Depends on the GW and how he/she chooses to interpret the rule.
Under the Migratory Game Bird Regulations General Rules "vehicles" section... "it is unlawful to hunt from or by means of motor-driven vehicles and land conveyances or aircraft of any kind, except paraplegics and single or double amputees of legs may hunt from stationary motor driven vehicles or land conveyances. It is unlawful to use motor driven land, water or air conveyances or sailboats to concentrate, drive, rally or stir up any migratory game bird."

back to the OP question at hand... ghillie suit? shorts, grey tshirt, flip flops and a big hat for me!

Cowboy boots, shorts & a camo T shirt. Shady spot on a dove stool.
Done.

No shorts for me while hunting, my legs would flare any dove within 10 miles.

I wear a tan short sleeve button up shirt because it's hot as hell and some dark green pants I bought at the army navy surplus store. Seems to work pretty well. I'm also pretty tan with dark hair and a beard. Maybe that helps too.

Mainly, I try to stand under a tree in the shade.
