How to keep squirrels from chewing on feeder

A buddy of mine here in Kansas has several Boss Buck deer feeders on the property he hunts. The squirrels have succeeded in chewing holes in all of them. Some of the holes are the size of your fist!

He has tried shark teeth on the legs and cone shields on the legs. The squirrels have figured out how to get around them each time. There are no trees nearby for them to drop from.

Any other ideas on how to stop them other than a 24/7 squirrel hunt?

We fastened a section of PVC pipe to each leg. They are attached by a piece of wire so the PVC pipe rotates freely when the squirrel try to climb. Work really well for us and we have a million squirrels

Try metal feeders with critter guards.

We wire up chicken wire all around the motor so nothing can get in.

I went to metal feeders and critter guards and my squirrel/coon problems appear to be over. OnTime sells a good critter guard.

Just one time in my life I would enjoy watchin a squirrel or coon touchin a hot wire or zapper on a feeder
I can only imagine the sheer enjoyment I would get from that hahahahaha

Coons in cahoots with hogs working together with a common goal...to empty ur feeder...I had to switch to all metal feeders and varmint guards, they have chewed up one to many plastic feeder lids, funnels, wires, ect. Even went with metal protein feeder sprayed the inside of the metal lid with truck undercoating to cut down on condensation, works good. I like the 17 HMR sentiment also...

Metal is the way to go. never had a raccoon or squirrel problem with this setup in 10 years of use for this one. Yes the barrel needs a paint job.

Now the coon inside the wire, that's funny. He would be a dead coon but its'still funny.

It works for a while and on the dumb ones but this coon has been around a while i guess i bet he could figure out an arubix cube

The coon does look like he's pretty smart, even the way he is sitting in the cage. Sorta like he's "daring" you to do something.

Metal feeder and a good square varmint guard. I struggled for years with pvc, strips, etc...I didn't feed a lot this year (1 second twice daily) but topped my feeder off in September and I still have 1/2 barrel left. Academy had varmint guards on clearance for $8.88. It is well worth the money and will pay for the very first bag you put in.
