Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 05:28 PM

First question is upgrade from what kind?
Posted By: DMW

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 05:35 PM

Assuming that you are upgrading from a Tasco, Burris, Simmons, Bushnell, etc, in my opinion, it's hard to beat the Nikon Monarch or the various Leupolds. If you are upgrading from a Nikon or Leupold, I can offer no advise, because that is WAY over my paygrade....................

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 06:40 PM

Depends on what you are upgrading from, Rifleman's suggesting is an upgrade from just about anything except perhaps US Optics or Leica. Better have deep pockets though.

Redfield. The older the better. Just cant beat a classic.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 08:01 PM

The short answer is that you buy the most expensive scope you can afford.

It's a bushnell piece of crud. Was thinkin Nikon, don't have real deep pockets. Would u consider the BDC or not

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 08:39 PM

I'm a Leupold guy as well.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 08:40 PM

Redfield is economical and is made by Leupold.

Thanx guys

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 10:51 PM

I'd honestly look at a vx3... What it's going on would decide CDS or B&C reticle.

Vortex.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/23/12 10:56 PM

Bushnell Elite series are very nice.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/24/12 12:01 AM

Vortex is not in the same category with Nikon or Leupold...any USA made scope will do good for you.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/24/12 01:29 AM

Check out the Nikon 3-12x42 Monarch. SWFA sells them at a pretty good price. Very nice scope for the money.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/24/12 01:44 AM

I hear good things about the Nikon Prostaff scopes as well. And they have models with the BDC too.

Natchez Shooters Supply frequently sells refurbished models at a fraction of the cost of new one's. It's worth checking out.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/24/12 09:29 PM

I like to find something that works and stick with it, but scopes are one area I haven't been able to get consistent. Right now on my active rifles I have Leupold, Swarovski, Nikon, and Zeiss. They're all good, but don’t ask me which one is best. I think Nikon is making some of the best binoculars and scopes for the dollar though on the low to mid-range.

Check out the Vortex line!!

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/25/12 07:09 AM

For the $ Burris Fullfield, Nikon Buckmasters and Prostaff, Busnell 3200, Vortex Viper are all good scopes.

BDC or not that is a personal preference for you to make.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/25/12 06:30 PM

I've long been a Leupold guy, but I did buy a Burris FFII in 4.5x14, just to see what I could get for $300. I've been very impressed with it. I also had a Nikon Monarch for a while (4x16), but it broke. I replaced it with another Leupold.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/25/12 11:26 PM

Zeiss Conquest. Check out SWFA for discounts and look at thier sample list (refurbs and demos)

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/26/12 01:28 AM

For $300 or less, I'd give Leupold VXI, Redfield, Nikon or Burriss Fullfield a look. Tend to stay away from anything Bushnell under $300.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/26/12 01:36 AM

I have the Nikon Monarch 3x12 40mm on my .270 and I'm very happy with it. Like someone mentioned - get the best scope you can afford.

Got both Leupolds and Nikons. Can't go wrong with either. I do enjoy the BDC reticle in the Nikon though (and the price).

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/26/12 03:02 AM

If you want to upgrade and save yourself some coin, go gt yourself a Leopold M8 fixed 6X scope. I've got them on several rifles, and used them with success on 3 continents. Once you practice enough with the fixed power, you'll not miss the extra magnification. Just my opinion. Good luck

Lots of votes for Nikon. I will add another. Have a buckmaster and 2 prostaff. Love em all I shot my 22-250 today with a tasco and when I switched to the .243 with the prostaff on it I really noticed how clear it was. I will buy a prostaff when I need my next scope.

Not trying to hyjack this mans thread so please pm me. Can someone give me the short version on how to use the bdc reticle and the 1000 yrd adjustment knob on a nikon monarch please. I got this scope on a trade and its above my paygrade.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/26/12 02:54 PM

The one of the best tests for a scope is how much light it picks up. Try looking through the scope after sundown. If you can see better (more light) than with out it, it's good, if not don't buy it.

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/26/12 11:41 PM

I agree with dlrz71, Zeiss Conquest to be exact and it'll be worth it for you to checkout SWFA. And yes check out their sample list. I've bought 8-10 scopes from them along with binocs and all have been priced great and have performed as advertised.

Also I have Leupold, Zeiss Conquest, Swarovski, and Khales and I believe the best for the money are Zeiss Conquests.

Only about 3 or 4 scope mfgs. purchase the best ground lens each
yr. You are talking about scopes that cost around $2k and up. There are no really good $300 scopes irregardless of Brand. I have installed, sold, and or own Ziess, Leupold Mark IV, Swar., Steiner,BSA,ect. If you stay in the top of the line in Burris, Leupold ect you'll be all right. Zeiss Conquest is a good hunting scope. But you are going to out around $1k or more for a
decent pc. of glass. I've installed Leu. Mark IV on $400 rifles and they work well..You cannot hit what you can't see...Just don't purchase one w/the intent of selling or trading..Don

Re: What brand of scope do u recommend?? - 11/27/12 12:56 PM

Leupold, older redfields, old lymans. Some of the older scopes may not have the best optics anymore, but the cross hairs stay where they are supposed to. If you want the best warranty go with Leupold.
