We make them out of 55 gallon drums... Same idea just bigger.

T post and a heavy chain will keep you from searching for it in the woods. smile

Also makes more noise... So if you happen to be sleeping in the blind it will wake you up! smile

I have a couple of them. They work great. Hogs will mess with it forever and keep coming back plus it doles only a little corn out at a time.

I just drive a t-post into the ground and loop the chain around the post.

I was watching the pigs the first time they came up to my pipe. As soon as they saw it, they turned and ran. I thought...great, only my pigs would be afraid of a pig pipe. Maybe hogs around here are a little jumpy grin

We've been using them for years. They work very, very well. Just don't drill too many holes and don't make them too big.

A 'fancy' pipe we made:

After a week, I decided that the holes wern't big enough. Enlarged first holes, drilled four more and they cleaned out the pipe in two nights. Now back to four holes. smile

great idea thanks for the info, like the dinner bell addition also. will pass on to my fellow et lease members, we have a huge transmission line splitting the 900 acres, will be a lot of fun to hunt with the pig pipe. may even add a motion lite like you see on kids shoes for night hunting so will light up when the pigs start rolling it around, add that after deer season ends.

how long does the corn last???

Re: Pig Pipe.....this works awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 - 06/07/12 12:02 AM

Ive learned to put more holes if you want more corn to come out, not bigger holes. I watched a coon one night lay on his belly reach in and grab hands full of corn four hours. Small holes but more of em is better.

I did the same thing with a lot of 2L coke bottles near my stand. It seemed to work good because they have to work so hard to get it out of the bottle. Only issue is the moisture on the corn.

one of the members on here uses a cow bell attached to the end of his. mine are attached to one of the legs of my feeder so the motion lights light them up.

they tried to steal mine. this is what i found one morning.

i put the cable around a bolt about 6 inches inside the tube and ran the cable through the cap. they have bent the bolt but not broken it.

I just bought the materials last night based on the items in the link.. Had to go with a little bit bigger connector links, but other than that, everything esle fit nicely together.. Cost about $50-$60 (at Lowes) if you have to purchase all the materials. I just need to find a couple of bells to see if that really works.. will post pics with the outcome.

Re: Pig Pipe.....this works awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 - 06/16/12 10:15 AM

pafree, I did mine like that except I put a swivel on the bolt. The first swivel I used wasn't heavy-duty enough and they broke it. They will break the pipe before they break the swivel I have in it now. I also used a little heavier bolt than you did.

i use a sweet feed and corn mix and was afraid the sweet feed would clog up the swivel.

my local feed store carries the cow bells. it is a cool little store. over the years when somebody asks them to order something then they order two or three and have them in stock.

Deer will mess with them as much as hogs. Luckily we still do not have hogs, but we use the pipes to feed along with the feeders.

We made something similar out of drain pipe

Re: Pig Pipe.....this works awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 - 06/22/12 03:57 AM

These are good cheap corn feeders that are easy to make, and target hogs pretty well. We've gotten game cam pictures of cattle and deer eating the spilled corn, but it doesn't look like they push the pipe around like pigs do. I used a different method of anchoring the pipe that the hogs have never broken, I'll have to take some pics someday.

Re: Pig Pipe.....this works awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 - 06/25/12 10:19 PM

We had two of the pipes going at one time and couldn't keep them filled but maybe a day or two at the most. We even plugged all the holes but one and it still got emptied fast.

We put rocks in them so the pigs would still show up thinking there was corn in them and would push the empty pipe around.

Got to where if you wanted to shoot a hog, just fill the pipe the night before, but forget putting out corn from one weekend to the next as it will be empty.

Needless to say, we have a lot of hogs.
