I have one leupold scope

Posted By: kyle1974

I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:19 PM

and I have to return the POS to have it warrantied....

imagine that. and, I'm currently the 7th person in line to the warranty center.

good thing leupold makes such high quality products!

LMAO

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:22 PM

That's true. They do make some of the best scopes IMO.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:22 PM

And how many are after you in line? Should have bought a Zeiss Conquest for the same money. Glad you are getting it taken care right in the middle of deer season also. popcorn

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:23 PM

Like all things sometimes they break. Leupold has a great warranty program so I sure they will take care of you.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:23 PM

I bought before I realized what wads of crap leupolds are! (2003 I think).

hey, no big deal... I'm going to change my scope and go shoot a deer next week at this package hunt place. I'll just aim center of mass like all these other people do when they hunt up here! My guide will find it.

LOL

Yo Kyle, they could just send you a new one since it is hunting season right? stir

Just get a bigger caliber rifle while you are getting a new scope and you will be just fine then. rolleyes

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:28 PM

it's a VXIII 4.5-14x40.

stx, that's a great idea. I heard from a guy who killz big deerz that if you shoot something like a 338 rem ultra mag, it doesn't matter where you hit the deer, they will drop in their tracks.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:29 PM

he told me that it's right in the middle of hunting season so the wait times are much longer.

7 people out of hundreds of thousands of scopes? Sounds reasonable to me.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:38 PM

Silly boys, don't ya'll know that nothing short of .700 nitro express is completely useless on white tails?

Using a .700, or even bigger for the those monster spikes, you're guaranteed a 'dead right there' shot, and most times you won't even have to field dress them because they got so scared when they heard that bullet flying that they did it themselves.

Dang nice scope! What is wrong with it? Won't hold zero? Won't adjust?

All I've bought in the last few years have been Zeiss, but I bet if you look at the percentage of warranty claims on Zeiss vs Leupold, there won't be much difference.

How many more are in line behind is the real question I think.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:46 PM

shheeeeeeeeeeeet! it won't hold zero. I had it on my 7mm that will shoot well, and it started shooting ~4" groups. cleaned the barrel...shot OK, then shot like crap. I took the rings and bases off, re assembled everything, check the ring alignment, and the scope worked well for a few shots, then started spraying again. put a zeiss on it, and it's money. I put the leupold on a sako 25-06 and initially it shot great, well under 1" groups. last weekend I checked the zero on it and it was off about 3". made an adjustment with no change to bullet impact, then it started spraying bullets all over the place.

stx, I'm plenty tall to shoot a RUM... just a shade under 5 feet tall.

as for the statistics... there were 7 people in line RIGHT NOW, not people for all historical purchases of leupold products.

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:49 PM

I own several leupold scopes, the newest one is about 10 years old. Never had a problem although zeiss makes some nice scopes I fail to see how a zeis 3x9-40 is soooo much better than a leupold 3x9-40. Shot several side by side in low light and at night by the light of the moon. Never did something with one that I couldnt do with the other. It is the next trend of oh if you dont have "X" then you need a better scope.

Leupold used to be good American stuff..

I have had some adjustment issues with a scope with that big variable power..

It doesn't have "Zeiss" or "Swarovski" stamped on it anywhere bolt

Re: I have one leupold scope - 11/15/11 07:57 PM

I have owned at least a couple dozen Leupold scopes over the years, and the only problems I have ever had with any of them have been with a couple of illumination turrets. The customer serviice folks have been a pleasure to deal with, and in my opinion, their no BS warranty is great.

I also own several Zeiss Conquests and Diavaris as well as Swarovski Z6i's and PV-I's, and in my opinion, Leupolds can hold their own optically with the best of them.

I hunted with a Tasco Pronghorn 3-9x40mm as my primary hunting scope from 1986 until 1998 and never had a single problem with it. As a matter of fact, I just put it on a Ruger 10/22 a few weeks ago and am still using it.

I use a bushnell that I got at Walmart on a clearance rack.. Matter fact got, right when they started carrying Leupold scopes.. Guess they was thinning the herd for the good stuff..
I bought it cause I had a problem with a redfield on my 270.. Thought well here is a cheap way to test if it's the scope.. That thing is still on it.. Not a high dollar scope and it shows, but been a dang good one..

Good luck with the New Scope Kyle

I have returned 3 Leupolds for not holding zero. All were repalced with new scopes.. It just sucks when they break at a very bad time. The worst was the leupold that broke somewhere between here and Montana for an Elk hunt. Glad I took along a backup rifle with a Nikon on top. Have bought my last Leupold.

once you blend the box in with the others they never know the difference. My wife grabbed a 10/22 in the back of the safe opening weekend that was right in front of a rifle she had never seen before and I haven't heard a peep.

Still love the Leupolds, for the money you can't go wrong IMO..never had an issue. I have found though that some folks don't take in to account their barrel floating & temperature outside/barrel cleaning etc when sighting in their rifle. Then go to a really cold state to hunt, & all of a sudden "OMG" this scope sucks. I've done it too, moral of the story is....it's not always the scope that's the problem. Hhmmnnn, the dove stew is ready & really smelling good. Think I'll have some smile

But sometimes it is.

The best customer service and best warranty is to design it right, and build it right, before it leaves the factory, so it does not have to come back.

But sometimes it is.

The best customer service and best warranty is to design it right, and build it right, before it leaves the factory, so it does not have to come back.

Does that include Nightforce, Schmidt & Bender, and Hensoldt?

I have owned two Zeiss LRF binoculars and both had problems.

I have zeiss diavaris and never an issue

It also depends on how the person takes care of their equipment, I remember one time we had this hunter that had some of the best equipment. I almost died when I saw him put his Weatherby rifle with his Zeiss scope in a soft case, and then chunk it in the bed of his pickup. He didn't lay in their, he pitched it to the front of the bed from the tailgate.

Hendstolt has been bad but mostly military stuff
nightforce is about two of six going back
Schmidt is o for o... never sold one in twenty five years in business.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the consumer of high end products actually realizing when something is wrong? we've all seen "that guy" at the range, shoot 3 shots into a pie plate, and call it good...

there are a lot of people that can't tell the difference (so they say) between cheap scopes and high end scopes, maybe they can't tell when something is out of focus a bit, or an adjustment isn't working perfectly?

You don't like Leupold, fine, get it fixed sell it and buy somthin you do like, seems simple enough to me.

Your opinion of/experience with Leupold is not much different from mine with Nikon, or to a lessor degree Bushnell Burris Swaro Z's and Vortex.

You're not gonna change the minds of those that are happy with their brand of choice or have much influence on those looking for opinions before purchase.

Cheerleaders make more noise than the players.
