What a dissapointment

What a dissapointment - 08/21/11 11:55 AM

So I attended the Friends of the NRA Banquet in Elk CIty OK. Have never been to one of these events. We got there it was Awesome they had raffles, doors prizes, silent auctions, and live auctions and raffle games. They were giving away guns left and right the food was good also. Well I wasnt winning any guns in the raffles so I got in on the live auction won the bid on a Tarus 44 mag. revolver, go to start my paperwork on and as soon as the FFL sponsor seen that I was from TX said he was not going to sell me that gun and that was our Federal Goverment at work I replied back with what about long guns (considering that I had bought $160 worth of raffles tickets and that other prizes were out there) He told me that he would not sell me any guns. Well they had to re-raffle the the pistol again and since we could not buy or win any guns we ended up leaving. I guess the point of this is that if there is an event like this near you in a neiboring state you better check with the FFL sponsor before you spend your money and can't win or buy anything. The imporatnt thing is that it is for a cause. Support the NRA.

Being and FFL in OK, they could have shipped it to an FFL in your area and done the paper work there. Out of state does change things but it still works. At least the money for the tickets went for a good cause.

Also, you can buy long guns in OK. I work here (OK) and have bought them from Tinker and Bass Pro. They won't sell me handguns though.

Yep. A Texan can't buy handguns in Oklahoma; only long guns. I tried to buy a Colt Defender from a co-worker who is an Oklahoma CHL instructor. He wouldn't even sell me a pistol in a FTF, non-FFL transaction.

A hard pill to swallow but rules is rules and you need to know them before you get in too deep.

Government regulations have gotten way out of control!!

Seems like the Obama administration found a way to mess up an NRA event!!! It is no secret that the Liberal Dems hate the NRA.

Ted Nugent needs to come to the rescue on this one!!! At least he would give them a good tongue lashing!!!

I wish the Government would stay out of our lives with all of their regulations and political games. They serve the people, not the other way around!!!

I feel better, thanks for letting me vent.

Don't think Obama had anything to do with out of staters being unable to buy a handgun in Oklahoma...

It was definitely a state, liberal Democrat that got this regulation passed under direction from the Federal Government.

Obama is the leader of the Liberal Dem. administration and they have been passing regulations (per their agenda) like crazy. Hillary is actually pushing for a global gun ban. How crazy is that?

I remember when I could buy a gun wherever I wanted. Now some Federal minion is telling me what to do.

The Liberal Dems (Obama administration) are definitely using all of the regulatory agencies to push their political agendas while they are in power.

For years I am not sure how many you can only purchase a handgun in your state of residancy. Long guns you can purchase in other states unless they have further state restrictions like Kansas does.

As much as I do not like Obama this one is not his doing.

muyloco We went to Tulsa,(last year) after just talking about it for years. My hunting buddy was looking at a like new in the box early Colt AR, the dealer asked where we were from, course we told him TEXAS, in a LOUD voice he yelled TEXAS buyers right here, don't sell them anything it will go to Mexico, and you will lose your FFL. We are both CHL holders and My buddy has several class 3 stamps. We walked around for a short time, talked to the show people and left. MY over taxed dollars WILL NOT be spent there again.

Who are you responding to here? If the OP, I'm pretty sure the law is the law.

Re: What a dissapointment - 08/22/11 11:50 AM

It's been a law for a long time..... handguns only in your state of residence or where stationed on active duty in the military..... at least 25 years...

Re: What a dissapointment - 08/22/11 04:36 PM

I do think since you won the raffle/auction it was their obligation to know the law and offer shipping to dealer in your state for proper paperwork, and if that wasn't done the amount you bid refunded!

Re: What a dissapointment - 08/23/11 12:21 AM

I believe it has been a federal law since 1984. But as correctly stated above the gun can be shipped to an FFL in Texas. The seller wqas probably either ignorant or lazy.
Oklahoma is as gun friendly as Texas as far as their state laws are concerned.

Hillary is working on an international ban of gun exports. That's not a bad thing when you consider the crazies in Africa and, cough, cough, Mexico. It's not a 'gun ban". Obama is not about banning guns and has even said it can't be done. So stay calm and carry on.
