The Worst Way to Start Duck Season

The Worst Way to Start Duck Season - 10/25/07 06:29 PM

Last weekend my roomate and I had our house and cars broken into and we had everything stolen. The Tvs and the xboxes were a big deal but the worst part about it was that all of our guns were taken as well. To make things worse I see geese by the hundereds everyday and quite a few ducks as well. Just want to put a warning out to all of you Lubbock guys on here, watch your stuff carefully because the people who broke in knew exactlly what they were doing. O well I think it is time to get a job because I now have my eye on a brand spankin new benelli, might just have to settle for a new 870. But as Hank Jr. says "A country boy can survive."

Same thing happened to me about three years back when I was in grad school at Texas Tech. These guys broke in, knew when my roommate and I were gone, must have cased us, and took everything. Well not everything, my roommate came home early from work and think he scared them becuase my stereo and tv was unhooked but not taken. Got all the guns, DVDs, remotes, digital camera, but took the stuff that pisses you off, like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, the stuff you do not think about being stolen but you get into the shower reach for soap and D@MMIT. Anyway, about a week later I went to Academy and was talking to the guy at the gun desk and told him what happened. Three other guys said they got broken into also, all with 1/4 mile of me. So Chris I FEEL FOR YA.

That sucks guys.

It is unfortunately happening everywhere. My next door neighbor had two flat screens stolen and a PS2 and 1 guitar from Guitar Hero. At least they left one guitar. A month ago my neighbor behind me had their TV lifted and I didn't even know. If people weren't buying all this hot stuff then it wouldn't be getting stolen so much now. If I don't recognize you in my neighborhood I keep a close eye on ya and my hand near the safe.

BTW - I had my car broken into out there in Lubbock and a highway patrolman caught them walking across the Coronado High School Parking lot about 3 am. I was lucky. It was two white guys and one of their dads was a highway patrol man!! A guy from my high school was attending Tech and he was thrown in the slammer for grand theft auto as a student... You never know who is doing this crap.

Man that Sucks! Hopefully you are insured. It is a good idea to walk the whole house with a video camera and film everything of value for insurance purposes. Then keep the tape at another location... never know when a fire might happen or you get robbed.

One of my friends had a several guns, tools, and his stereo stolen out of his truck not to long ago in Lubbock. The next day he went out and baught a .40 cal. pistol. About a week later they struck again and he was just seconds late from unloading into their sorry @$$.

When I first moved to DFW, I went out with some friends near downtown and stayed at their place instead of driving back to Plano. Some POS broke into my Jeep and stole some clothes, tried to get my CD player and broke it while doing so, and even took all of the change from the change holder. I guess he did not share my taste in music because he left all of my CDs. Broke two windows trying to get in.

A kid tryed to steal my sons yamaha 50 out of mygarage in 96. I heard him start it and my son and wife were not home. I ran out in the garage just in time to see him riding down my driveway.I took off after him screaming as loud as I could when he turned around to look he turned the handle bars hard and flew off the front of the bike skidding face first down the alley

Great, I'm moving to Lubbock for grad school in December. Last thing I need is to worry about my stuff. At least I'll have 2 roommates, but even then... Bright side, might give me a reason to finally get a pistol!

Always be cautious of who you let into your house and what you let them see! Majority of the time, it's someone who knows you and has been in your house.

Yeah HWT_MAN that what the cops told us. The all of the stuff that was stolen from the trucks was hidden under the seats and could not be seen from the windows. So it had to have been someone who knew what was under there.

TWarren- When you come to lubbock do not move into lynnwood townhomes, that where we were when it happened and when we told the office, they were like thats nothing we had 60+ break ins last spring. My roomate and I were like F*** you we outta here, and thanks for letting us know before we signed our lives away. My advice would be get ahold of the police and ask them what place they have to go to often for that kind of thing.

Make a video record of everything of value like Greg said. Be sure you have renter's insurance. It is only about 30 or 40 bucks a month and well worth it. In most cases you are not covered without it. Also check to see if your car insurance covers items stolen from a vehicle. Some policies only cover items that are considered part of the vehicle such as stereos.
