Favorite Shooter (drink)

Favorite Shooter (drink) - 03/03/24 01:19 AM

I used to, back in the trading days, drink shooters with friends and exotic dancers (so sue me) with favorites being Rattlesnakes and Kamakazis. Any of you guys have a favorite shooter? There were other favored shooters, but the names escape me.

Never trust a trader by the way. I went out to eat in Houston with an oil trader from NYC years ago. Didn’t want to leave my wild girl daughter at home alone, so brought her with me. She got all dolled up and looked nothing like the 16 year old that she was. I had to go talk to someone, so I left the table. Got back from not being gone long, and she and the city slicker were already past their second Rattlesnake. She liked them. I took that as a bad sign.

Irish Car Bombs and Flaming Dr Peppers. Since they stopped making 151, flaming Dr Peppers are like a Playboy magazine.

My favorite these days is water. A hard drink for me would be some C4 or some Woke AF. Lol. No alcohol for me whatsoever.

In my younger days it was wild turkey. I used to work at Baby Dolls Dallas in my wilder days. I have never, ever lost a game of chicken in my life, my left forearm is completely scar-ified from games of chicken. Strippers used to sit in my lap and do what strippers do, and burn my arm. One did a smiley face lol. I realize now that it was not tough, but dumb. Lucky I didn’t catch something that way.

It was like 2010 time frame I learned about pre-workout supplements, eventually started drinking alcohol pre-workout. My stepdad drank vodka while he lifted and he was a freak of nature. So naturally i did it too, but it was wild turkey for me.

Used to split a 5th with my best bud first thing every Saturday before the sun even come up, and straight into the gym. Liquor strength is a real thing, if you have the genetics for it, if your body responds to it the way mine does. It is unreal.

Back in the day it was a Kamikaze and a dozen others I cannot remember. In Germany, there was something called Apfelkorn... it was glorious for a young lightweight like I was back then.

Got home from local ER Thursday night after dealing with family issue and I deserved a shot so had bottle of Crown Apple in freezer. 2 shots were just right and slept good that night. I keep bottle of Crown Peach handy cause the stuff is great with iced tea! splash a little in with your Lipton iced tea and makes it not so plain. I have to be careful since I start and end my days with iced tea in hand and darn sure don't want to show up at work with a mixxer.

Not a shooter, but don't laugh. My late uncle was an accomplished horseman and rancher, but he really loved packing with his mules in northeastern Oregon -- up into the Eagle Cap Wilderness when not down along the Snake in Hell's Canyon. On a summer pack trip into the Eagle Caps, he introduced me to an unusually good drink. Put a scoop of clean snow in your tin cup, sprinkle this with powdered Tang (remember that stuff?) and then soak it good with Canadian whiskey. Don't laugh until you have tried this -- and it is particularly refreshing at altitudes above 7,000 feet. cool
Back down nearer sea level, I like to sip on some sotol -- tequila's smarter, smoother brother.

Re: Favorite Shooter (drink) - 03/03/24 02:31 PM

I keep a bottle of Tequila and one of Mescal in the freezer. Been doing that for decades. The eyeopening thing these days is that when the grandkids visit, they know where the tequila is, and help themselves to that and the limes. The other eye opening thing is that the youngest grandkid is 19. How on earth did I get old enough to have grandkids that old? And they can suck down some tequila.

Bet they never had a B52 or a Rattlesnake, or a Kamakazi. They spend too much time on social media and not enough time out in the world doing crazy crap like we did. They have soft hands and NO scars. What kinda life is that? They need to be making memories and getting a few scars.

I am on a booze sabbatical. Just started. I enjoy occasionally sipping on some De Kuypers fruit brandy at night. Evidently I had too much the other night. Saw a broken glass piece on a bookcase in the bedroom. Wife told me that she had to walk me to bed and I fell against the bookcase breaking the glass. That’s never happened in my life.

Re: Favorite Shooter (drink) - 03/06/24 03:52 PM

Dave, sorry to hear this. Glad you weren't cut. My ex -- now sober for years -- was a vodka drinker. One night she fell trying to sit in a chair and broke a rib. On another night she fell and struck her face ending up with a perfect black eye. Acquaintances thought I had hit her. I have never hit a woman. But bad things sure can happen under the influence. It was an auspicious day for the human race when some guy in the Neolithic left some wild grain in rainwater and came back a week later ...
