We have had 5 or 6 short power outages here. 2 - 4 seconds each time. The generator cranks, but does not reach operating temp before the power comes back on.

These are a little strange...not normal trips and automatic reclosers...I wonder what the power company is up to.

You guys crack me up.

Neighbor showed up at the door looking for a jump start. Thankfully my truck has been plugged in and it started, not happy though by the sound of it.
Made the spouse cover his nose, told him not a pretty sight without a nose or a black nose but he wasn't happy about it.
I'm betting he's happy he took the day off today.

Still about -19 but clear, tonight it will get very cold actual temp and then warm up into the 20's tomorrow for our drive.

As you can see , life goes on even when bitter cold up here.
Beers should be very cold at our friends brewery downtown tonight. One last cold one with friends before the holidays.

They build houses for cold up this way.
All of our water pipes run up through the center of our house, next to the exhaust vent pipe for the water heater and furnace.
Frost free faucets outside too.
No pipes in the attic up here.
For bitter cold we pile snow on top of the water meter too, it is deep but without use for a few days while travelling it can freeze up.

Re: It`s has arrived - 12/22/22 09:52 PM

I had to run to the lease real quick to get the trailer ready for the deep freeze. I woke up this morning at 6am to head back to Dallas and it was 38 degrees when I left camp. By the time I reached the front gate about 1 mile away the front had hit and by the time I made it to Blackwell a few miles away it was 27 degrees. Got to Abilene and it was 13 degrees with a really thick blowing snow. It snowed pretty heavy all the way to Weatherford and by the time I got to Dallas it was just flurries and 22 degrees. Road conditions were fine the whole way but at times visibility was maybe 100 yards with the 45mph winds.

Yessr, nice & spicy too. Instead of using ground venison like I normally do, I'm shredding a shoulder roast that I braised in the roaster to throw in there.

Just got in from feeding cattle and deer hunting. The wind will cut ya deep. Almost didn’t cut the net wrap off the last 10 round bales. Hunting was just watching the snow flurries. I’ve lived in Colorado and Iowa and it’s been colder. But when you aren’t around really cold weather for awhile even something as small as this Texas cold front will get at you.

Y’all stay warm.

Yep. Last night I watched weather reports for the Abilene and San Angelo area and checked Weather.Com and never saw a mention of snow. Some dallas reports were calling for flurries but never any mention of the heavy stuff I saw from south of Abilene all the way to Weatherford.

Yup. Been a while since I had to spend any time in really cold weather, although this November's part of the panhandle deer season was colder than usual. But it's still tough to adjust when you're not exposed to it regularly. That, and I find that the older I get the more effort I have to spend towards tolerating the cold.

11 degrees here this morning.

Just got out of the hot tub here in Whitefish @ -15. That was a brisk walk back to the Airbnb!

You are exactly right Kent. Been in the south for 30 years, the blood has thinned out. You know how people say that 110 degrees in Phoenix doesn’t feel that bad bad because it’s a dry heat? The same goes for cold. The cold with the higher humidity is way worse than the cold up here.
