Cook Children’s Hospital goes into disaster code - 11/04/22 03:14 AM

620 kids in 24 hours. I was in and around there most of my career and never saw numbers like this.

They're working on an RSV vaccine as we speak.

Nothing worse in the world than a sick kiddo. Prayers for all those families.

Some sources are saying the surge is due to covid quarantining and the like over the last 2 years. This prevented the normal number of children from getting exposed to RSV. Now they are and it's spiking.

My son got RSV earlier in the year, then he got round two a few weeks ago and was kind enough to give it to me. RSV sucked. I never ran a fever, but the constant headaches, body aches, chills, shortness of breath was rough. 5 days misery. This second round of RSV is a much more contagious strand than the typical, which is why adults are getting it so much and why kids are getting it for a second time in the same year.

You have a very good point. Just imagine the native Americans without immunity or treatments when probably similar viruses came over from which they had no or little immunity. There was the virus smallpox of course but other pathogens. There was no malice. They just didn’t know. It happened.

There’s sort of a normal ebb and flow of these viruses in a typical population where people develop a herd immunity according to the experts. After isolation of our children I could see this happening.

Prayers for the kiddos.

Just one of many negative effects of locking kids down for years.

The effects will he felt for a generation.

Thank you sir up

That doesn’t sound good, I’m very wary of any vaccine related since the whole COVID debacle. Hope my son just sails through without getting it. He wasn’t locked down though, he went to daycare every day during the pandemic so maybe he has some immunity already built up.

My youngest got RSV at a month old and it nearly killed him. His doctors told us that having RSV probably helped him stave off Covid, he has never had it that we know of.

I guess I haven't heard of RSV before. I don't watch the news either.

Talking with a friend the other day that is an over night ER nurse at Children’s Plano. He mentioned RSV keeping them busy. Guess it found a new gear.

My grandkids that live in Longview have both had it earlier this year. I also believe the grands in Allen have also had it, but I think it was last year. Hope that this thing peaks soon and doesn't get any worse.

Wife and I maybe had it a couple months ago. She went to the dr and got a steroid shot and z-pack. They only said it was a respiratory infection, never mentioned RSV. I just suffered through till it left.

Only the dumb ones….smart ones avoid them like the plague unless dire medical attention is necessary.

I won’t go near one unloading I have to.
