By what standard? If Snoop Dogg releases a song that sounds just like all of his other songs, but he calls it country, is it country?

He does sing with a country twang, so I suppose it is..

Individuals can classify it however they want. People can even make up a classification to help themselves feel more comfortable. However, the country music industry and music industry in general classifies it as country music.

That singer is just now making it after lots of years of trying. The money is rolling in big time.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/27/22 01:47 PM

Did a little research on Walker Hayes, born and raised in Mobile, AL. Got a music degree in an AL university and has been writing and recording music in Nashville for the last 20 years or so. May be different C&W than George or Hank but I'd say he's a C&W singer. At least as much or more than the PA transplant to Nashville, Taylor Swift was...

Go back and look at Clint Black's Houston Stratford HS year book senior year photo.

Btw, I like that better than swingen or achy brakey.

That song couldn’t even be described a Country Pop! Nothing country about it.

Nope. The industry does.

Read about the song "Old Town Road" and what went on with that.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/27/22 03:27 PM

That Walker Hayes person sounds like there's some sort of speech issue with the way words with the letter 's' are pronounced. Also, that person and the Demun Jones video posted - what's with these grown men moving/gestures like they're trendy hiphoppers or thugs? You look stupid. Stop it. That begs the question why are music videos even made at this point? Do people really watch music videos enough at this point to justify it? These people must be so full of themselves. MTV stopped playing them like twenty years ago.

He found a way to monetize his talent.. good for him. If I were him, I wouldn’t care what they called it either as long as the checks kept hitting.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/27/22 03:40 PM

If we could go back in time to around 1944, and like Johnny Bond was your country music, then you might have similar comments about Waylon not being country for example.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/27/22 03:56 PM

It's comical how there are always people who will say "but, but, he's got checks rolling in" anytime someone say's ANYTHING about one of the talentless dweebs from Nashville. Rosie O' Donnell has "checks" coming in too, that doesn't mean she has talent.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/27/22 04:02 PM

Call it bro country, like it is.

There’s not just rock. It’s split up into many groups like classic, grunge, punk, alternative, etc. Do the same with country. You could even call it [censored] country. That would be the most accurate.

There's some history about that. I believe when Waylon was once asked about the controversy he had with the Nashville scene, he replied something along the lines of laughing or chuckling about it all the way to the bank.

There's a lot of really talented musicians who never become famous. To be famous you have to have something special which will bring in lots of $s for the people promoting you. If you will make money for them, they don't care about talent.

Same folks would have trashed Johnny Cash when he was new on the scene and an outsider too, Lmao.

It's catchy, my kids like it, so we play it at our house along with Morgan Wallen, Eric Church, and Luke Combs.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 09/29/22 06:14 PM

This is where real country music came from. Like Bill would say "Look it up". added translation

English translationA A
Neither the money nor anything else
Because I am the way I am, you despise me without reason,
because I live among people whom you say they aren't up to your standards,
you don't let me sing at your grille, like others sing to you,
you don't let me shout that I love you with profound tenderness.

Because I am the way I am, your affection is leaning me,
because I didn't make money in the world, they are defeating me,
I don't have the rights to anything just for being a vagabond,
but I know that you are adoring me deep down, in your soul.

I can't think that your love for me will come to an end,9
neither the money, nor anything or anyone else will be able to separate us,
there are memories that never will be erased, and that's the way ours are,
to be able to forget so many things, they would have to kill us.

If you really are leaving, tell me facing me,
if you are thinking of sending me a letter, don't bother,
this good-bye, sweetheart, I demand to do it looking at your face,
and if no longer there is love in your eyes, I'll go away from your life

It’s not what I want and desire to listen to, but it definitely ain’t all about me. If this production catches the ear of somes, then fine. The ends help the middle which can lead to a bigger listening public which will end up supplying more of what I do prefer.

This no different than hunting. Somes don’t do it the way I do and that’s okay. All of them others help me to enjoy what I enjoy.

Re: So this is considered country music... - 10/02/22 02:13 PM

I like to think of it as "New Age Country", not what I grew up on but just the more current sound of country. Must evolve our palates or find something else on the radio to tune into. I listen to it sparingly but more so to Lithium channel on Sirius radio. To each their own. At this point no going back to the 50s-80s trends, sounds...
