I am glad you brought up "2 years" as a base.
When you hear that inflation is at 8.5%, that is only this year. That is only looking at the last 9 months of this administrations 21 months.
2021 was 7%, then this year to date is 8.5%. That is a 16.1% increase with these yoyos, and the year isn't over yet.
And I think it is higher that that.

17-4 stainless steel. One example is the 1” round bar was 19.30/ft in 2019, we just paid 66.20/ft for some last week and it took over a month to get it.

Re: Worse case of inflation on a single item - 09/05/22 12:38 PM

Gasoline went from a nationwide average of $1.99 in September of 2020 to $3.82 in September of 2022. That's an increases of 92% on something everyone uses nearly.

Stainless steel is winning right now.

Consumer grade fertilizer major price increase came before 2020. In the 2017-2019 era it tripled. Did it triple again?

Canned corn is $0.58 per can at Walmart right now but I realize some will not shop there. How much canned corn do you eat versus electricity or fuel usage?

My electric bills this year have been the same as last year. Folks 10 miles away not on my co-op are paying triple. That has to be a poorly managed company issue.

Tires, though I haven't bought any in 5-6 years, looking now the prices are just crazy. $500+ for one tire is nuts.

Our government has changed the components of the CPI numerous times to make the news number whatever they want it to be. Some financial writers are saying that if we had the same components as many years ago the CPI would be more like 15-20%

The is for pointing that out. Most people only focus on what they hear in the news. They don’t account for the previous year or total inflation from day one of this administration.

Buddy told me about that. No Buccee's close enough to me for ice so I have not noticed. I excluded fuel from discussion but should have excluded all commodities. Commodity prices will fluctuate quite a bit in normal times. I remember when I handled the lumber contract for a major manufactured housing company lumber would jump every spring or on some negative news.

We fed Alpo lamb and rice canned food to our dogs for years at $.68 per can, now Alpo is nonexistent on shelves in this area and we have been forced to get Purina One at $1.86 per can.

Costal hay square bales. Two years ago I could get it delivered and stacked for $8 bale. Now with fertilizer, diesel and drought I'm paying $12 and have been told to expect $15 if things don't change.

We used to buy the 60 pack of eggs for $4.88 at Wallyworld before SloppyJoe and they went up to $16.88. Tractor parts like my shredder blades went from $90 to $150 and they are cheaply made with the cutting edge stamped into them instead of a grind making them thinner and weak.
