My fil has one similar we shoot golf balls out of it.

Not sure how the tennis ball thing is going to work out. I would expect it to not survive the trip but I’ve not ever tried one yet.

You could even shoot potato's from it.

I would imagine you could cut a slit and fill those tennis balls with concrete. I have a SMLE Enfield rifle with cup grenade launcher that I launch tennis balls with using grenade rounds. If I don't wrap them in duct tape, they get badly damaged, so might be something else to try if the cannon tears them up.

It wasn't smokey but here is a true story from about 1979 give or take. I took a truck to a big muffler shop in Dallas on I-30 for duel exhaust. That bunch and I kind of hit it off and something came up about -- what I forgot? However, one thing led to the next and they were telling me about their torch cannon.

They took a 20' piece of muffler stock, as they called it. They crimped one end. Then they put it into a vice pointed out of the building. Then they burned a hole near that crimped end. Then then they lit the acetylene / oxygen torch. Then they said that was the mixture they wanted. Then they snuffed it out on the concrete below, with the gasses still coming out. Then they put the tip into the hole near the crimp.

I'm going to guess that they only injected that mixture into the small hole for a few seconds. Then they said to hold our ears. Then they fired the torch up again and simply waved it over that hole.....Kaboom!!! It was only a gas noise bomb, but extremely loud.

They told me that they had taken some shop rags, wet them, and then tied them into a ball. They said that they fired this wet shop rag ball over I-30.

I didn't see it. However, I would be surprised if any of that bunch is still alive, with all limbs, eyesight, etc. etc.etc.

Something makes me think that with this bunch there will be a report "from the field."

They work well. We used them in a cannon that we filled with oxygen and used a blackcat to ignite. They are a 1 time use as we never found them.

Oh I can see our next trip where we shoot it at 2Beez across a field. Bob and weave 2Beez, bob and weave.

50 odd years ago grandad bought some black powder for us kids to use to blow up tin cans with.

He said for several years afterward he got calls from the ATF or FBI inquiring about the status of that powder. I never got the story on that.....

This is from my BPCR days at YCSA. This must be nearly 20 years ago. 14lb bowling ball mortar - it sailed 500 meters and took out one of the rams. Heckova shot.
I think the charge was 2 35mm film cans full of 1Fg, and it was set off by a .32 cal blank (and the apparatus) with a long string attached. The finger holes made a crying sound all the way downrange.

This is going to be fun to play with for sure. if you blow yourself up Spitfire is going to be pretty annoyed.

When I was at SFA in the early '80 there were two fraternities that had cannons, the KAs and the Theta Chis.
One night someone did a drive by on the Lambda Chi house. Loaded a cannon with pool balls and lit it off. Blew the front door off the hinges and missed a guy sleeping on the couch in the front room by a few inches.
Nac PD, FBI, ATF, DPS and Texas Rangers all got in on the investigation. They crawled up every fraternity on campus just in case someone had made a secret cannon.
They never were able to prove who did it.
