Was looking at pickups

Was looking at pickups - 05/25/22 11:04 PM

The wife broke her hip pretty bad. I have a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500. It is about 23 [inches from the ground to the floorboard. I am in partnership with my son on cattle so all I really haul is a few Ibex I sell. Anyway I thought maybe I should get a smaller truck so it won't be so hard for the wife to get into. Looked on the internet and there are a few around that would pull my 14 ft. trailer with goats with ease. So a couple of days ago I go down IH10 below Boerne and look at GMC Canyons, ford Rangers and Toyota Tacoma. Thinking since they were smaller, they would be shorter in the ground to floorboard height. I was wrong. They are about the same height as the Dodge. But what really surprised me was that there was no activity at GMC or Ford, but it was like a three-ring circus at Toyota. Toyota is doing a heck of a business right now compared to the others.

Toyota of Boerne is a joke. I own two Toyotas, one bought from Toyota of Boerne. I'll never do any business with them ever again.

I have 154k on my Honda Ridgeline, it’s been a great vehicle. Check them out, Don. The new ones will pull your 14’ no problem.

i hate the guy that does the commercials....such a doucher.

Ford of Boerne is worse though.....why do we have the worst auto dealers? Cavender Chevrolet is awesome, their only downfall is they sell Chevy's.....

I've got a 21 4x4 Colorado that has been great. Already have 31k on it. It is a tad lower than my 17 1500 silverado was, but not by much.

I did see a Honda Ridgeline today that had dirt on it. Never seen that before.

It already has them. It is the extra step that is the problem. She has to back up to the seat. Sit down then scoot hack. Then get the good leg in which is not a problem then get in the bad one which is the problem. It will all get worked out eventually, if we both live long enough.

Build her a stool for the truck you have. Measure from the ground to the step, make the stool half the distance. Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars, spend under $100.

If it's a 4 door, put the stool in the back passenger floorboard, after she gets in.

Still better then a generator with a UTV bed on it. Pretty sure 7.6” of ground clearance is also what the Tesla SUV has

I’m sure people that have them love them. I just don’t see any use for them, other then it’s Honda so I’m assuming it’s reliable

No comparison. I think my Can Am is more capable than a Honda ridge line.

Gibson's in Kerrville stocks a little black plastic, 2-step "project stool." Pretty handy, if she's stable enough to navigate it. Over by the kitchen stuff.

Re: Was looking at pickups - 05/26/22 11:12 PM

Getting her home tomorrow. Bought an extension for the toilet. We can then bring it into the bedroom at night. Met with numerous people at the hospital for advice. She is and has been for now 2 weeks at Sid Peterson in Kerrville. This is the first time in many years I have dealings with hospitals. I have been very impressed with how they have treated her and myself. Hopefully I will never have to be admitted there but if I ever do I will not be concerned. As for the truck. I imagine it will be some time before she rides in it. But that gives her something to work for. We use it to go to Shreveport for her Blackjack fix. Hopefully before the summer is over. Thanks for all your prayers and concerns, Donald

When I was in a full leg splint after my knee replacement, Wife would drive and I would use a step stool and go butt first into the back seat of my lifted truck. It was a better option than her lifted Jeep. best of luck.

That is just plain ugly. Tires sticking out that far beyond the fenders should be illegal. They throw road debris at other vehicles. Not to mention the paint damaging carp they throw up on the fenders.
