Why is “running” the new term for using an item

Why is “running” the new term for using an item - 05/20/22 02:22 PM

I get someone asking the question If your talking about a truck, boat or other motorized vehicle, but this term is another example of an overused phrase that implies a level of importance that isn’t there.

The other day someone saw my Kuiu hat and asked “ what system was I running”?

How in the fark do you run a set of clothes? Same thing with my guns/bows…..” hey bud what rig you running”? I’m not running any of my weapons…I shoot them.

I’m running over to my buddies place tonight to help him hang a big [censored] fan in his shop, does that count as hip ?

I’ve been using the term most of my life,

I’ve run about every truck made.

I’ve always run a skeeter

I run a Prodrive

I’ve had best luck running toyos.

I get that question, I had a guy ask me what my favorite pieces of stone glacier where the other day after seeing my hat. We talked about packs and my core system. He was really thankful

I think for some seeing a very niche specific brand such as Kuiu, Sitka, SG, etc It’s general curiosity of backcountry hunting. You and I are fortunate and get to hunt out west a bunch, that knowledge is very helpful to someone that wants to go and doesn’t know where to start or what to cut corners on from a cost factor

Lol, that’s best you got? You hunt out of state? Mountains, Alaska, Canada etc?

I get it, mountains aren’t your thing but being a dick because someone wants to learn something is extremely petty.

But that’s what you are, petty about everything you have or don’t have, just one giant projection of justifications for its inadequateness

What a waste

I was excited to get to this thread and y’all are mostly really going way off course.
OP only used the clothing as an example. His point was using the term “running” instead of something more appropriate like “using”.
I never heard the term till I got on this forum and I hear it on here a lot. I’ve never used it. The guys in firearms seem to use it the most so I assume it’s kind of special lingo so you know who’s in your club. Maybe like pig Latin or gang talk. NOTHING WRONG WITH IT but to everyday people any specialized lingo is like a foreign language. Kinda like some hunters will say they got a “50’s” buck instead of saying “150’s.buck”. Just from what I can tell on THF I have assumed it was mostly younger guys, especially into guns, and other guys that are into lots of bells and whistles toys.

Never. 'Can't stand to even see a "kit" in a movie. Freaks me the hell out. "Ray" is a perfect example. I love jazz and R&B. So many great artists thought they couldn't get by without it. Extremely sad.

Re: Why is “running” the new term for using an item - 05/22/22 03:12 AM

“Kit”, see, there you go. Never heard the word.
In the restaurant business a commonly used slang term is “86”. It means you are out of that item. Once, we ran out of chicken livers so someone alerts every one by hollering “86 livers”. Well, everyone in any restaurant “club/click “ knew we were out but a Nigerian cook that was new started to batter up 86 orders of livers.
Suggestion mine, know your audience when you use slang/lingo…..

Kinda like some hunters will say they got a “50’s” buck instead of saying “150’s.buck”.

Oh god I hate that term. Drives me nuts. It’s it that hard to put a “1” on front of the last two letters?

Someone say “ I think he’ll go in the 60’s” I’m thinking they are talking about a yearling buck.

Also, I’ve never heard a serious hunter use the term, it’s all been a bunch of wannabes trying to sound cool
