Good! Just 31 years too late, at a cost of who knows what to the State and to the officer's family.

I like your thinking but to me it's 32 years to late, he should have been shot on sight!

"This delay of three decades undermines the rationale for the death penalty ... Whatever deterrent effect there is diminished by delay," his attorneys David Dow and Jeffrey Newberry, wrote in court documents.

His lawyer is right. We should definitely fix that going forward. How many people have we got on death row? Let's line 'em up and start burning a couple a day!

Lawyers liking to maximize those billable hours have to have a lot to do with the ridiculous delay over the years. And they're right, it destroys any deterrence effect. Let 'em appeal. Of course, everything should be reviewed with a fine-tooth comb to make every possible effort to ensure an innocent person wasn't convicted, then give 'em the needle at the 1 year mark.

Does it still cost more to execute an inmate(this includes all the appeals processes) than it does to keep them alive until they die naturally? I remember that being talked about years ago.

Only because they let it drag out so long.

IMO you get 3 years to get all your appeals in-on day 1096, regardless of the status of all appeals, they walk you to the chamber/firing squad/chair and do it. Don't have enough judges to hear all the appeals? We'll hire extra with all the money saved by not having prisons full of death-row inmates.

I remember some years back, that folks bragged about Texas having an “express lane”. We all know what slowed it down

Average in Texas is 50.79 per inmate per day, 31 years including 7 extra days for the leap years, 575,044.38.

Our tax dollars at work.
