Please Pray for my Wife!

Posted By: CassCounty

Please Pray for my Wife! - 03/05/22 09:06 PM

Please pray for my wife Beth. We all tested positive for Covid February 1st. My wife has Interstitial Lund Disease so they gave her Paxlovid and she breezed through it for 3 weeks, but a week ago started having breathing issues. I took her to UT Southwestern Friday morning and they diagnosed her with Covid pneumonia. They have ran multiple antibiotics, put her on high flow oxygen and started high dose steroids and Remdesivir. Due to her being on immunosuppressants she never fully fought off Covid. She is on the Covid floor so I can only be with her via FaceTime or an app they have through their monitor. I truly believe in the power of prayer and sincerely ask you for all can send up. Thank You!!!!

She's not on a ventilator yet, just high flow oxygen. She has been testing positive since Feb. 1st. She initially took Paxlovid which worked great but her being immunosuppressed the virus was replicating very slowly (we're told). We tried multiple things but still ended up at this point.

As a life-long Catholic, a Christian, I can still offer an old-west prayer in multiple forms.
"God" and "The Great Spirit" can be one in the same.

More prayers today.
Get well, Beth.

In the waiting, in the searching
In the healing, in the hurting
Like a blessing buried in the broken pieces
Every minute, every moment
Where I've been or where I'm going
Even when I didn't know it
Or couldn't see it
There was Jesus.

I will bring it tomorrow and talk to her about it. She's a chemist with a masters degree so I will leave it up to her. I researched a lot the last couple days and ran a few things by her Dr's....They were already doing what I researched so I really feel She is in good hands and they are truly trying.

Beth is still about the same. Her oxygen is at 94% today but the bipap is at 100% and she isn't struggling near as hard to breathe today. They are going to try to put the NG tube in again today, they said she's too weak for any other option. She is just so immunosuppressed that her body isn't fighting the virus well. The doctors have her on a few antivirals and are trying to get approval to use another drug. They said she's just not producing enough antibodies right now. I ask for continued prayers for her Please. Thank You all so much!!!

Beth had a little better day today. They were able to remove her from the bipap and put her on the high flow oxygen nasal apparatus so she could drink and get some ensure in her. She's breathing easier today. The Remdesivir and other antiviral are working. The scary news is she's so immunosuppressed she's not producing ANY antibodies to fight the Covid. The team is trying to get permission from a company to get and use an infusion from them. I have been praying sooo much. I pray they can get the infusion and it works. Thank You all for the prayers so far!! If you can send more up now I would truly appreciate it!!!!

Hang in there and use this thread to vent if you need to. Most doctors and nurses I have been around want whats best for you and your wife but many times there is too much red tape in the way for them to carry out procedures and treatments that they may want to explore. They are on your side so try not to lose your cool with them. Its most likely insurance or some other bureaucrat standing in the way.

I understand. The health care team has been great. We just need Glaxo Smith Kline to let her have the antibodies.

Beth is heavily sedated. She had a rough night/morning. The Dr told us he feels she has a 20% chance for a positive outcome. They are allowing us to see her now. We get to see her from 10-12 and 4-6 every day. We just left the hospital and going look for a room now. They approved the antibodies today so they said probably Tuesday or so she’ll get that. It’s really tough right now. I appreciate all of your prayers!!! I really do.

Beth is heavily sedated and they have her on a paralytic to prevent her working against the ventilator. We get to see her from 10-12 and 4-6 daily. She’s had a few close episodes but they got her back stable. Still saying about a 20% chance of a positive outcome. I’m going to stay with her as long as I can. Hang in there Cass.

2 Corinthians 12:8, Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Continued prayers for your wife, you and family Sir.

I walked down this road late last summer, so I probably know a lot of what you're feeling and going through, it will test you in many ways, prayers for strength and healing.

Excerpt from an article that may be worth bringing up to the Doctor, I was told the antibody RX was most effective if administered during the 1'st 7 days after onset of symptoms, but each case is somewhat different.

"The singular focus on vaccines meant that little attention was paid to lifesaving therapeutics. For example, Paxlovid is an antiviral medication that reduced COVID deaths to zero in the clinical trial, yet not enough has been produced. Fluvoxamine, an $10 anti-depressant medication that has been available for years, was found in two reputable studies to reduce COVID death, up to 91% in the latest study (no study suggests it’s not effective). Yet, few doctors are aware of these data because our public health officials have never talked about Fluvoxamine."

Thank You for that. I will show the Dr tomorrow. I understand my wife is an unusual case. She had the Rituximab infusion in December to slow her autoimmune (Wegener’s) disease. Therefore She isn’t producing any antibodies to the Covid. The monoclonal antibodies may help her because of this. She should have been given the antibodies when she first tested positive but we didn’t know at the time and I assume the Dr’s didn’t either. Thank You for everything.

Cass, I'm sorry that I had not read this thread earlier. I woke up at about 4 this morning, and could not fall back asleep, so got on here and ended up reading this whole thread from the beginning. Maybe God woke me up because he wanted me to read this. Anyhow, our family was in a similar situation about a year and a half ago. My Brother-in-law's brother, who is ironically my wife's cousin's husband was in the hospital for over 100 days with Covid. He ended up on ECMO for 99 days if I recall the numbers and dates correctly. We prayed like we had never prayed before, and he eventually recovered. He talks funny now (vocal chord damage from the trach and ventalator), but otherwise is back to normal. If I recall, at one point, they had given him a 20% chance as well. Just to let you know, people do go through what you are going through, and come out the other side. Don't give that 20% thing much weight.

Lord, I pray for you to heal Beth. Lord, please give her and Cass the strength for the long haul. I know this is a long road, and I pray that you help Beth and Cass along the way. In Jesus's name we pray. Amen.

Re: Please Pray for my Wife! - 03/24/22 01:58 AM

Beth’s numbers were a little better today. The ventilator was on 70% and she maintained 99% oxygen. Her blood pressure was better with less meds. Her breath rate was higher but normal for her with her reduced lung capacity. Still working on getting something to fight the Covid. Dr seemed minutely happier and said he’s looking at doing the tracheotomy later this week if her numbers stay ok. Thank You all again.

Re: Please Pray for my Wife! - 03/25/22 02:20 AM

The ventilator was set on 70% this morning and Beth was maintaining 99% oxygen. They turned the ventilator down to 65% this evening and Beth was maintaining 92-93% oxygen. They reduced her blood pressure meds even more and her blood pressure was stable. They took her off the paralytic and so far so good. Her heart rate went down to normal (84) when I visited this morning, then went up when I left. It went down again this evening when We visited so the nurse said she senses us there. The infectious disease Dr met me this evening and I signed the consent form for the monoclonal antibodies. She thinks within 2-3 days she'll clear all hurdles with the FDA and they'll do the infusion. She said she's as hopeful as we are that they will help. Baby steps again today but in the right direction.

Re: Please Pray for my Wife! - 03/27/22 03:27 AM

I just don’t understand this. What are they saying is the reason she can’t get the monoclonal antibodies? Makes ZERO sense to me. I get that they try and keep them for serious cases and people that have other underlying issues… but if anyone is a candidate, I’d say she 100% is!

Is it the hospital that’s not giving them? Or is it bigger than that?

Ask your doc if another company could come in and administer them to her. I have heart issues, so I guess I qualified and my doc used a 3rd party company who actually drove to my house and administered the antibodies to me. Ask her doc if he/she can get a company like that to come in for her.

We are sure praying for you guys!

Beth had a little setback last night. Her oxygen dropped and they had to increase the ventilator. Her blood gasses went down so the upped the nitric oxide. They got everything back in line this evening. Ventilator is at 70% and oxygen is 93%. I’m probably going to start staying at hospital full time Monday and just finding a gym or somewhere to shower (hospital doesn’t have a guest shower). That’s if she’s stable, if not my Daughter doesn’t want to leave. I’m just trying to drop the hotel if possible.

Beth had a stable day today. The ICU Dr said from his experience she may be at this plateau for a week or two then her lungs will either show improvement or decline. I’m praying hard for improvement. Thank You all for your prayers and everything. I appreciate you all.

Beth’s ventilator and oxygen numbers are about the same. She has gotten a resistant bacteria in her urinary tract. The Dr’s are giving her high dose antibiotics for it now. I took my daughter home yesterday and transitioned to staying in her room full time now (hotel costs got outrageous). I’m looking for a gym to shower once a day now. Thank You all so much for the prayers. We truly appreciate you all!!!!

Beth’s oxygen and ventilator numbers are about the same…I’m glad no worse. The infection turned out to be a resistant bacteria in her ut. Her white blood cell count is trending down so they think they got on it quick enough and with the targeted antibiotic. Her CO2 in her blood is too high now which is what they are focusing on.

Re: Please Pray for my Wife! - 04/12/22 01:46 AM

Beth's oxygen and ventilator settings were the same today. Her CO2 is still elevated. They are concerned about the number of days she has been sedated but can't lower sedation until they can come down on the amount of support from the ventilator, and she breathes against the ventilator when they reduce the sedation. They are going to try a few different medications to see if they help.
