Bourbon guys, where to start?

Just got back from the store and picked these two up.





Thought I'd try something new. Anyone had this before?

They both look interesting. Let us know how they taste.

I have had Smoke Wagon, it was good. I was hoping to have it to sip on for a while, but I took it to the ranch and they polished it off in an evening.
I have seen Bakers on the shelf but never bought it. I'll wait for the review.

Bakers is one of the premium brands from Jim Beam/Suntory. I’d drink it over a bunch of things people talk about on here...

Smoke wagon is some of the best whiskey MGPI produces and is bottled in Las Vegas... it’s great also and pretty hard to find so.... congrats on that one!

Stick with Scottish and Canadian. That’s where I’d start.

The smoke wagon is pretty good. Bakers wasn’t bad either.

Wow the smoke wagon is awesome. Not caskey at all. I do not like the strong barrel taste. Very good indeed.

I’d love to say that American whiskeys are better, but it just isn’t so. I won’t apologize for being honest.

I think everyone starts with Jim Beam.

The Bakers is good but in my opinion the lowest level of their 4 small batch whiskeys. Don’t confuse these with Jim Beam, even if it is the same company.

Haven’t tried the smoke wagon or much of anything lately. I’m falling behind.

I am kidding. Also I hate blended whiskey.

I should know this, but I’m not sure what blended whiskeys are.

I think I have bought 3 maybe 4 bottles my entire life

I hear its overrated and I don't care still want to try that

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought most Canadian whiskey was blended.

I am sure someone will come along shortly and Straighten me out.

It is over rated, imo.

I know I have bought Jameson, Crown and Titos

And I have had the one w the wax on top, maybe red wax

That sounds right, actually. I don’t know. I like it.

Maker’s Mark has red wax, I believe.

Jameson is my go to.

Bakers 7 year is good, not Smoke Wagon small batch good but tolerable.

Smells kinda like fresh paint, seriously.
Taste is heavy cask though nose at first with a touch of vanilla in the end. Not bad.

I'll drink, pretty much any Bourbon once to try it out.
Just so long as it's not driveway cleaner, in a square bottle..

Id spend $100 if it was great

It would take me a year on it

The Titos and sprite wasn't bad, I prob should buy that again

That bottom bottle is one of my favorites. I wish I could find it as it’s hard to beat

Unless it says "Single Barrel" then technically it's most likely a blend.

Even though a product comes from a single distillery and from the same batch, multiple barrels are dumped into a vat before bottling, hence the technicality of being blended.

Most folks think of a blend though as something like a Jim Bean White Label, Maker's Mark, Jack Daniels, or a Johnnie Walker where multiple styles, years, proofs, etc. are blended by a master blender (and team) to come to a consistent tasting product over the years.

Advantages to both but it's all personal based on your taste preferences.

All this is what I "think" I learned from listening to WhiskyCast (https://whiskycast.com/) for years before my liquor budget turned into my things (think diapers, toys, etc.) for the kids budget.

And it is a crap blend. Old Crow is far better, for that mattrer Benchmarks beats it badly.

Same here it's form pinko commies and losers who can't make good whiskey.

Having another snort of the Smokewagon this evening. Probably will just disappoint me when I run out. Might not be able to find it again.

It is really good

Try Makers 101 if you like cherry/Dr. Pepper flavors.

I also like the Devils River Rye and Ironroot Prometheus when I want to drink Texas made stuff.
