Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 04:04 AM

Any of you Gents own a Blackstone Grill? I’m in the market for one but torn between the 2 burner vs. 4 burner, 28” vs. 36”, warming trays & air fryers or just the cooktop. Lid, cover, accessories, etc…Any feedback appreciated!

I do and love it. But I have a 17” with a fryer in the side. Perfect size for my RV at the lease and camping.

Love mine. Almost all meals can be cooked on it. It is cast iron and must be treated as such so it does need some care.

Love our 2 burner model. Great for big breakfasts, smash onion burgers, Ruben sandwiches, shrimp fried rice, Philly cheese steak, street tacos (grandsons favorite).
Like cast iron cookware, clean with water and reapply a bit of oil and your good to go.

Wow! Talk about 50/50 on opinions. One might think we were discussing Jeff Gordon in the mid-90's...

I have a 2 burner pit boss griddle and I freaking love it. I want a bigger one. I did Philly cheesesteaks on it last night and they were awesome. Doing fried rice on it tonight. It’s not really that hard to keep clean. I just scrape it and then oil it.

Same here, I have the the 22" and love it. You have to keep it seasoned or you'll hate it, I scrape after cooking but leave a coating of fat until I'm ready to cook again and then clean it.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 03:20 PM

I had the 28", loved it. After the 4th time of grinding down to bare metal and reasoning I sold it. I still have my 17" in my camping kit that has been much easier to keep rust free.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 03:44 PM

I have the 5 burner and love it but it’s more than I need. The 3 or four burner would have been ideal.
It’s big and took a good day and a 12pk to season it.
It’s very easy to clean if seasoned well. They recommend at least 3 coats but I did 7 or 8 and had to take off a few and reapply. The trick is to clean it as soon as your done cooking. It takes about 5 mins on by big one.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 03:46 PM

just like anything which gets fat hot is going to be a PITA.

you have to treat it just like a restaurant flat top griddle. water on hot grill then scrape with your hamburger turner. Grill cleaning tool, sold on amazon, comes with a blade and a griddle pad. 3-M makes a kit you can buy at ACEMART Restaurant supply. it has everything you need to keep your flat-top clean which is a must.

the BEST flat top set up is your friends.

I would be curious how the ones that hated them kept them and stored them and tried to clean them.

I am a blackstone newbie, got one for christmas from the in-laws since they love theirs so much, 2 burners with lid.
I seasoned it as described online and it has a rich dark cast iron seasoned look to it now. When i use it i keep it hot after cooking and simply scrape the residue into the catch pan and put a little oil on wipe it down with some paper towels and its good as new, literally 30 seconds. For more stuck on stuff i squirt a little water on and that breaks down the stuck on stuff and it is easy to scrape down into the catch pan.

Granted i haven’t had mine for years, but i keep it under cover so there is no chance for rain to hit it, but when i seasoned it i ran the grease on the outside edges too so those should he pretty well protected from minor wet (when the rain is flying sideways).

So far really like it, have big plans to use it for all kinds of stuff to include hibachi/teppanyaki style venison and elk..

You sound like a person who would appreciate my 9 beer ribs. That’s the cook time, 9 beers.

If you’re “cleaning it” after every use, you’re doing it wrong. That said I don’t use it as much as I thought I would when I bought it but it has its advantages over a regular gas grill.

My BIL has the little 19" that is portable, and it is great to take to camp. I went with the Blue Rhino Razor 36" from Lowes. It is "portable", but you need two guys to carry it. The Razor has a grease cup on the front and has a searing burner that gets super hot. Treat them like cast iron and they are very easy to clean. I guess if you are not used to cast iron you would think they are hard to clean, but they are not. Squirt some hot water on the hot griddle, scrape, oil it, and put away.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 04:30 PM

I brought mine (4 burner) from Texas when I moved to Alabama. But it was just the two of us and we stopped using it. A Blackstone doesn't do well when it is not used. So I donated mine to a small church that runs a day camp during the summer months. Last I heard, it was still knocking out hamburgers and hotdogs.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 04:42 PM

I have a 4-burner converted to natural gas, and I love it.

It definitely takes a little deliberate care before & after cooking like tx buckeye described, but it's super easy. The extra real estate with the 4-burner ones really shines when making a full breakfast, fried rice, or other meals where you want to cook several things at once to all be ready at the same time.

I have the 4 burner Members Mark from Sam's and love it. Spent afternoon and seasoned it correctly and it is easy to clean!

Great feedback Gents, appreciate it. With 4 kiddos, 6+ nights of cooking weekly & weekend big breakfast events it will get well used.

Re: Blackstone Grill - 01/30/22 06:22 PM

I’ve had one 5 years and used it 3 times. I would sell it cheap.
I am looking at getting the pit boss smoker that also has has the griddle built in. I think I would use it more.

Save your money and buy this, this what I use. Put it on top of your grill grates on your grill, works the same without the space being taken up.

I’ve got another brand that’s a 6 burner and I will say this it is way to big. If I did it again I’d do the 4.
