It takes a fair amount of capital to start but this is lucrative. Better if you can find a business partner to pony up the start-up if it’s outside your financial abilities, which it is for most people. It takes liquid cash.

That’s strange. I’ve been working since I was 14, never missed a beat. Checks always there too. Maybe I’m the only one. Nope this place is full.

As to the op. I do several different deals on side hustle. I’m an electrician so there is always that. Do a little buy/sell.

This time of the year we trap for money, our hides are worth the effort.
We also work for a rancher, taking care of his horses over winter then we do his irrigating in spring. He doesn't pay well but the hunting perks are well worth it.
Find a farmer or rancher to help out and maybe and build a long term relationship.

I'm a teacher/coach/knifemaker so this is coming from MY perspective...i'm probably gonna coach one more year and then I'll start reffing games because it's less time consuming than coaching 3 sports and I would have more time to work in my knife shop. If you're knowledgeable (or can get knowledgeable) about sports, i'd look into it! They pay pretty good for the hours worked, you can work when ya want and there's a statewide shortage (for a reason! ya better have some thick skin whether you're good OR bad!!). I could make up my yearly coaching stipend just doing one of the main sport seasons. I know around our area we are short on football, volleyball, and basketball refs, and I would assume we're gonna have the same issue with baseball/softball.

Several guys I work with do bounce houses on the side. I think they make a little money but do it mostly for the write offs. Another guy I know just bought a pool route. He works it one day a week and he's looking at making about $2K a month profit.

I used to buy items at auction and do re-sale, but there is no money in that these days.

Hard to find anything that can co-exist with a regular job. If you know how to do taxes or book-keeping, there is a market for that.

Always ranch work, and not really dealing with cows. Painting fence, spraying mesquites and pear, fence repair, chainsawing and miscellaneous other stuff. I'd like to have someone for 10-15 hours a week.

Trapping is good here in Texas, but furs aren't worth selling. Doesn't get cold enough here for the critters to get good fur. Fur buyers I've talked to want critters from much colder states.

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/03/22 10:03 PM

I always have a side hustle going, normally 3-4 at a time.

I'm the director of IT for an arm of TWC here in Texas. I've been here for 17 years this year. The pay isn't no where near what private companies are, but the benefits are great so I've really never felt the need to leave. I'm comfortable, and will probably retire from here. With that said I do like side hustles LOL.

Website/Graphic Design is by far my most profitable one, but I don't really enjoy it.

CBD business with my wife is second most profitable one and is actually doing a lot better than we first thought, but it is a pain in the [censored] to jump through all the hoops for licenses, bank accounts, and such.

I also do computer work for multiple local businesses at $75 an hour, it's almost not worth my time to drive to their location for 1 hour minimum then leave, but when they need complete computer refreshes or server upgrades you can make a good chunk of change because there are multiple hours of work involved.

My newest one is going to be custom cutting boards and charcuterie boards with laser engraving. I'm almost ready to start cranking them out, but got a few more tools and tweaks on my shop (lol garage) to do. With the price of domestic and exotic hardwoods, I'm not sure how well this one will do, but I actually enjoy it.

The one I tried, that I absolutely hated was a tee shirt apparel company. Had it not be for tax write offs on that I would have lost my [censored] LOL. NOT FUN!

Also used to make holsters, but got spooked after reading about people suing the holster maker because they had a negligent discharge shooting themselves. I sold my setup to a guy on here that took it 100 notches above what I was doing and did pretty well for himself I believe.

I work 10p-6a M-F and my side hustle is being a realtor. It’s a lucrative hustle right now, and the best part about it is when the market turns, you still have a 9-5 job to pay the bills while a lot of realtors will be jumping ship for something more stable. The initial investment is about $1500-$2000 depending on what classes you take and who your broker is and what they charge. I closed 15 properties last year, worked both sides of the deal on 3 of those. I’m rolling into 2022 with 7 closings scheduled.

It all depends on how hard you want to hustle.

This is something I’ve thought about for a while. Real estate has always intrigued me for some reason. I’ve looked into the real estate classes locally and the ones available online.

Congrats on a good year. Real estate in DFW is bonkers and has been for a while, with no chance of it slowing any time soon. DFW had the highest migration in the nation last year. A LOT of money to be made for good realtors.

Cord wood.
There’s a lot of trees that died or just need removing.
You get paid to remove and when you sell the wood.
It’s hard work, but not a lot of over head to get started.
I done a lot of this in my younger years,

I have a couple of buddies that I work with who have their lawn services as well. They usually bring their trailer with them to work and after work start mowing and finish up on weekends. I actually have all the equipment to do it but i don't even like mowing my own yard. They say it's different when you get paid to do it.

Go hang Christmas lights on houses in nice neighborhoods. People (like my wife) will pay a fortune for it. You could make a ton of money between Thanksgiving and mid-January putting up and taking down lights.

The guy who did our house this year charged about $2/ft. We've had quotes in the past, which we did not use, of up to $4-5/ft.

If you can sell them the commercial lights as well, even better.

Not sure what you do now. I’ve been a salesman in the oilfield for the last 20 years. I worked for the same company the whole time. I always had a side business that paid better than the job furnishing my truck and gas selling everything else my customers needed not directly related to my employer. My old company decided to let accountants run the company and started fing with the salesmen. They lost me and half the sales force. Now I sell it all for myself. Life is much better.

I have a buddy with a pressure washing side business that does really well, if that’s something your interested in.

If you are thinking about sales, I will say it takes a special type of person to be good at sales. There are more jerks, buttholes and people that you will just learn to hate than there are good people that you will have to sell to. I really admire a good salesman, they earn every dollar they get.

Been in sales most of my life. Have been in management rolls, but always wind up back in sales. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart and most people who pursue and education typically don’t make good salesmen, but good salesmen are also hard to handle because they aren’t status quo folks (thus not pursuing education). But if you can do well in sales like I’ve managed to do, there are infinite perks and freedoms that come with it as well as a ridiculous amount of money to be made. Certainly is not a career of monotony or regularity and is a ton of work to do well at it!

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/05/22 03:35 AM

My son does instacart shopping and makes $70 to $90 for 3 or 4 hours of work. Not real hard, but by the time you figure in taxes, fuel, wear and tear, it takes a big bite.

And yep, I’ve been a salesman since 1987 and have always had a job. It isn’t for everyone, and i often tell people it pays well because we have to deal with a lot of no, not now, next year, blah blah blah, so yeah, sticking to it til you hear yes means good compensation. Will add, I’ve never had a side hustle because if i have free time, i should be selling.

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/05/22 12:10 PM

Over the years I've bought and sold and enjoyed it. I came across a guy a couple of years ago who was buying pallets of tools from auctions. I would take all the popular stuff off his hands for a really good deal and flip them for a decent profit. Did it for a good while and it put some good extra cash in my pockets. I stopped when other people started buying pallets and reselling. Once that happened I wasn't able to buy and sell for a profit anymore and I didn't want to get into the whole buying pallets of tools and having to sit on all that stuff. Was much easier to pick and choose what I knew I could sell quickly.

I still surf the local market for items I can buy and sell but haven't had much luck like before. I did recently just purchase a 2001 Silverado Z71 for $500 that I plan on fixing and flipping unless I decided to keep it once it's back on the road.

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/05/22 01:55 PM

Been retired from my firefighting career for over 3 years now, but I have have rented antique mall space for about the last 5 years as a side gig. I was an ebay seller as a side gig for several years before that. I was doing the "pickers" sort of thing long before that show, but mostly buy and sell "smalls". It takes very little of my time and from my years of ebay selling I have developed real good eye of what sells and where to find it. These days rather than sell on ebay I now buy some of that inventory on ebay focusing on small impulse buy type items for the storefront. But I do still often stop in places to buy stuff during hunting fishing road trips too. I do very well for my time, but know that most dealers in that world barely make rent anymore and only do it as a hobby. Taxes are tough too, but since it is not income I need right now, over half of my profit goes into pre tax brokerage accounts. The other half of profit funds my hunting fishing hobbies so it does not come from the family budget.

A side hustle that would be great for anyone that is good with construction type stuff and has the tools would be to offer it on local facebook groups and marketplace and watch for people posting on same needing someone for small projects. If you do good work and price fair, it would not take long by word of mouth to have plenty of small jobs to do. There seems to be a big demand. I did some small construction projects last year for people that could not find anyone else they could afford or just to help them out. By word of mouth I soon had other people contacting me and ended up turning several people away. It's not what I wanted to do because it did not fit my "not taking up a lot of my time" requirement.

Mow yards?

That can't pay much can it? I am in Frisco I think everyone in the city has a lawn service cut thier yards, they only charge $25 per week to mow, edge, weed eat, and blow the sidewalks/walkway/driveway/street.

I see them picking up the Illegal Aliens who stand in downtown Frisco, I am sure they are not making more than $15 per hour.

Even the guys who own the mowing business, they can't make much only charging $25 per yard.

I have a neighbor that is a handyman over in the Frisco prosper area. He told me he has a one hour minimum I have no idea what that charge is. But people pay him to come hang an eraser board or a picture or anything like that. These husbands that make a half million a year work too much and it’s not worth their time and their wife wants things done and they have to pay someone to do it.

I noticed he had a little concrete mixing machine and dragging it around on the trailer I told him that looked like too much work he told me that a lot of the HOAs say that your trashcan cannot be in the grass so he is pouring a couple little pads off of the back of the driveways to put the trashcan each week he said it’s a very good moneymaker.

Yeah I see those same little handyman job requests on our neighborhood facebook page. People are willing to pay others to change light bulbs on houses with high ceilings, as mentioned hang a tv, and other little nick knack stuff.

Not every yard pays just $25. Also, about the second time a $25 crew costs you a $150 sprinkler-repair visit, you’ll figure out you get what you pay for.

$25 is pretty cheap. Most people in my area start at $45 per yard and go up from there. My buddy does bigger projects like commercial businesses and lots. He does have some residentials but doesn't care for them.

The guy who does my lawn has at least 6 or so on the block. His crew knocks them out in probably 45 minutes at $30 each. If he can do that all day, I suspect he does pretty well.

You want to choose something that has low overhead. By all means, make sure you are insured for what ever you choose to do.

What do you do for a living? What experience and education do you have? To me, exploiting that is the most logical play to start with. Not something you don't have experience with.

I have done the math: Lets say my guy charges $30. Crew is 3 guys total. He mows say 15 yards per day, they take about 20 minutes to do my yard which is average size in North Frisco. So he banks 450 per day, pays his crew at least $100 per day, so he puts in back pocket $250, take out gas for mowers, gas for vehicles, etc that isn't much money. Then add on top they only work March till November then it's not much cabbage in mowing yards.

Depends on the amount of work I would have to do but something simple I'd be good with at least $400 or more per month. Just some extra cash in my pocket for fun stuff.

Might try Uber-eats. My wife retire and now is bored so she’s trying it. I drove her around the first to make sure it was safe and the next two she when by herself. Real easy in that you pick up, drop off, take a pic, and get another order. About two hours each day and she earned almost $200. If you do it do not take pizza orders as they are never ready.

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/05/22 09:08 PM

Our yard guy just went up from $25 to $30 last summer. Granted, we’re not quite on postage stamp lots, but not far from it. However it’s just like pool cleaning like someone mentioned earlier. It’s not so much the yards, it’s the routes that pay well and take a long time to develop. I have a buddy in Austin who would build up pool cleaning routes and sell them to local companies so they didn’t have to invest the time to build up that route/clientele. 1 yard at $25 won’t do jack for your books, but when you have a whole street and good equipment and can knock out 20-40 yards/day, it can be decent money. Our yard guy is a former Cysco engineer from Mexico

Another buddy of mine in south Houston/Pearland area does landscaping/lawn care and actually makes great money. He focuses on the areas with acreage lots, but picks up a lot of work for being a veteran (and some tell him because he’s a white dude LOL). I’ve helped him over some summers and have had folks run up to him and fire their yard crews on the spot to hire him since he’s a veteran. I loved riding on his equipment when we’d do a 5-20 acre spot. Doing small yards is too tedious, but put me on a riding mower or a tractor for a few hours and I’m in a happy place, doesn’t even seem like work to me

Re: Side Hustle For Extra Income - 01/05/22 09:38 PM

Speaking of mowing, my brother got a cab tractor and batwing mower and started mowing acreage. His primary business is from real estate agents paying to mow land they have for sell. Paid off his equipment sometime in the second year and has been in the 70-90k range every year since. I don’t know what percentage of that is profit. That’s while also holding down a full time job.

The bad news is you don’t pick your hours or the when it rains. You have to meet your obligations or you don’t have any business.

That’s gonna be with a lot of side hustles or even additional business ventures anyway, even if the rain is a euphemism
