So the Caddy was attacked by 2 adult pit bulls trying to get a kitten, destroyed both front fenders, hood, front grill and both passenger and driver side doors have paint damage. A smaller pup had it's head stuck up in the engine compartment and was still there until the Deputy and I removed it about 5 minutes ago. I know who the dogs belong to and my wife seen them tearing up the Caddy and run them off before I could get out side.

Goodness, they must really like cats.
We had two labs do something similar to a Town Car many years ago, trying to get to a cat. They also ripped out a lot of wires.
We were babysitting a pit bull once and it wanted a cat so bad that it started chewing the tree down.

That sucks.

File the claim, insurance will go after them if they are at fault.

It's not like you bought a VW. What will the devil dogs be after the next time? This is not an action worthy of patience or tolerance, but swift action. Think about if one of your loved ones was holding a cat.

The owner should be responsible for putting the dogs down after being spoken to by LEO. In my way of thinking that is what good people would do. Insurance will help to mute the dollar cost, but nothing for the protection of yourself and the ones you love. Good people also protect their family at all costs.

Every problem I've has with livestock has been from dogs. Weather it be chickens, rabbits, cattle, hogs, etc. Not many strays out here but when they show up they are dealt with.
File police report and turn over to insurance company let them deal with it.

God I hate pit bulls

Pitbull owners often chain their dogs up in their yards at night. Find out where the dogs live, and then go in at 4AM and eliminate them using the method of your choice.

Probably end up filling on your insurance I bet?

Sorry to hear of the damage. Just glad the dogs did not turn on your wife or you. Be very careful to avoid them if possible. With all the horrors story's you hear about pit bulls I have always thought a $10,000 or higher bond to own each dog would help eliminate some numbers and problems. Good luck with your outcome.

No lost love for pit bulls at all here, put more than a few down. Also had one that was kind of a neighborhood dog that was always nice and friendly right up till he wasn't. They get zero chances from me.

I get the frustration and have no love loss for pitbulls, but I don't get why this is a killing offense. They went after a cat as most dogs will. Even labs, as mentioned above. I see no reason to put the dogs down over this.

They keep their dogs off my property and they won't get shot and my Caddy won't get chewed.

The damage to the car is more than if they killed a cow or calf.

I think each of the dogs heads should be sent to Austin to test for rabies.

I'm waiting for Hwy man to tell the rest of the story. I hope at least the owners are homeowners. Then their homeowner's insurance liability coverage should cover this. I would sure want the best body shop in the area fixing that if it isn't totaled.

From what I can tell the guy who just bought the property put the dog's in over there to protect it until he did some work on it. According to animal control what he's doing is against county ordinance, the dogs must be on the same property you live on. Filled a claim with my insurance and will meet the adjuster when it's time. I'll let them, the SO and Animal control deal with the owner. With extent of the damage I'm seeing I suspect they'll total it. Both front fenders the grill and headlights will have to be replaced, the hood will have to be taken down and repainted along with both front doors.

That's just sad to see, and I'd be seeing red for a while. Well sometimes it can be good to be forced to sit back and think rather than do quick justice. Lots of times the owners are worse than the dogs since they are sometimes smarter, take things personally, might have constitutional rights, and can walk up on two legs and such.

People should look at a potential pet and say: "If this thing were to suddenly want to kill me- is there anything I can do to stop it?" If the answer is "No." Probably you don't get that pet.

I've killed quite a few aggressive dogs in my life. Some belonged to me, others did not.

I love dogs but smoked several pits during my career. I don't consider them dogs. They are loaded guns that go off without anyone pulling the trigger and they are always pointed at someone when they go off.

Berserk death machines- eesh. Watched my 6 foot 2 dad swing some plumbing pipe to the skull of a strange pit that was head-shaking his 40lb dog one time. It just calmly put the dog down and sat looking at us. Real scary.

New headlight assemblies are 1200 bucks apiece. These are sealed units with the tracking system where the lights turn with the car. New parts for a Caddy ain't cheap! I miss the days when you could go to an auto parts buy another light and replace it yourself, you have to take the whole front grill assembly off just get to them now. Nothing is built to be worked on anymore. Seems the more technology and engineering advance the more I miss my old late 60's and early 70's vehicles.

Remember the headlights needing to be aligned to pass inspection? Dad had a 1915 Dodge (fixed headlights) and every year I'd go with him to watch him argue with the kid doing the inspection.
