Let’s talk Urban Meyer.

Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 03:33 AM

Urban Meyer is imploding. He won’t make it through the season. I would be surprised if he makes it through October.
He’s 0-4. Causing extra curricular distractions. His team don’t respect him.

The chic he was grinding with was pretty hot.

I heard his coaches weren't very happy with him

I don’t really give a crap about the grind. It just blows my mind to be 0-4 and not even flying back home with your team.

Jaguars would have been better off hiring Tebow as coach and Urban as TE.

Never liked the guy, stemming from his take on college recruiting many years back.

This is exactly how Urban felt about what he did...

Re: Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 01:25 PM

Can't stand Urban "Cryer" Meyer. He was so heartbroken about Tebow being leaving Florida he "retired" from coaching college football, blaming it on missing his family and kids growing up. Well next thing you know Ohio State comes calling with a boatload of money, and he's all of the sudden not missing his kids growing up. The guy is a loser.

Well before Dallas and Aikman made their run, the cowboys were 1-15. Give it time?

A lot of to do over a 7 second lap dance.

Re: Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 02:52 PM

"Oscar" Meyer is only about himself. I think he wants to get fired because he is way in over his head in the pro game. I really doubt he will be as effective in college any more. I think he wants back in the college game.

I think that is only part of the debacle. 0-4 plus not flying back with the team is the other part.

Urbans wife?
Urbans kids?
That little floozies parents?

He obviously doesn't care. His contract is probably all guaranteed money (coaches are different than players) so if they fire him then he's still getting paid.

No doubt. If he was 4-0 everyone would just be winking and giggling about the “grind”. Even SportsCenter.

Exactly, but he's not.

Re: Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 03:04 PM

First off, Urban has a shady past with oddly timed exits from prior jobs. I'm not a fan of the guy, but he was probably the 2nd most successful college coach in the last 15 years behind Saban. I'm not defending him and I'm pretty indifferent towards him. But, if this was a no-name coach of a team that was 2-2 instead of 0-4, this really would not be much of an issue after 4 days. There have been far worse violations committed by players, owners (Kraft, Jerry, Irsay, etc), and coaches over the years. But it's a high profile coach who brought a lot of attention to himself through odd personnel decisions and coaching antics and the videos and pics went viral in a hurry. On the surface, none of it looks like a fireable offense. Now, if Shad Khan is unhappy with his whole body of work and adds this to the full equation, he might be fired in a couple weeks. Probably depends on if the Jags have a moral clause to use as an out without having to pay out his full contract.

Apparently a lot of the players are none to pleased with him.

Re: Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 03:11 PM

I say give the guy a break... he made a bad judgement call. We've all made a bad judgement call in a dark/smoky bar. smile

You can't dispute the fact he was a very successful college coach and any college team and several NFL teams would love to have him. The field is littered with college coaches who couldn't make the switch.

He was King in Ohio and now truly gets the picture he's not in Ohio anymore and his team is 0-4. He has alot of work to do... more on winning/earning his team's respect as their leader vs winning football games.

Being 0-4, not flying with the team, cancelling Monday practice are all a distraction. His players and coaches don’t respect him. Jags are looking for an exit plan.

Can anyone name a successful college head coach, in any sport, that made the transition to a successful coach in the pros? I cannot think of one.

Jimmy & Pete Carroll were the first to come to my mind. Jim Harbaugh had a lot of success before going to Michigan.

Matt Rhule and Coach Bro (Kingsbury) are doing pretty well so far in the NFL.

The one NFL failure that is baffling to me is Saban. It's hard to believe he was so mediocre with the Dolphins.

Since we're talking Urban Meyer an obvious connection would be Paul Brown... Ohio State -> Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

EDIT
Tom Coughlin - Boston College -> Jacksonville Jaguars
Jim Harbaugh - does he count since - NFL -> college -> NFL ?

Re: Let’s talk Urban Meyer. - 10/06/21 08:52 PM

Sabans story is a bit different on why he left NFL.

He was 9-7 and needed at QB. He pursued Drew Brees. Drew flew to Miami to meet the organization. Saban flew to Birmingham to meet Dr Andrew’s who did the surgery. Andrew’s said he would be fine. Miami team Dr failed Brees physical. Saban was livid. Saints made an offer and Brees was gone. Saban was stuck with a trash Dante Culpepper.

The Alabama job came available and he said he couldn’t win in NFL without a QB and didn’t trust the team doctor.
He left on good terms with the Hizingas.

Just saw an article where the girl in the Meyer video has been identified. They scoured her social media accounts and apparently she's knows Meyer for months...didn't just meet like he said.

This ain't over. He needs to just go away. Forever.

Offense was never the problem. We’d score 60, they’d score 65! He didn’t know the first thing about putting a defense together.
