Back with a vengeance - and they're riding on tics.

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 12:30 AM

I got eaten alive by chiggers while camping at Texoma a few weeks ago.

Mosquitoes are back in force too, was hoping the freeze killed them but nope.

Just like my dog she doesn't get flea's I don't get chiggers.

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 12:46 AM

Put a little dab of clear fingernail polish on each one. Thank me later. Also Benadryl cream will relive the itch.

But as an old Texas saying goes, " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 12:59 AM

Scratch them down to the bone for satisfaction and then smear with rubbing alcohol. It will burn so damn bad it will quit itching.

I normally get eaten up with chiggers but I haven't gotten any yet. I'm thinking our chiggers have drowned.

finger nail polish, does nothing to relieve the discomfort of chiggers....
However, benadryl will help.............

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 02:10 AM

No chigger problems yet, but the mosquitos are as bad as I have ever seen them. No matter how much Off I use, I still get bitten.

I seen a mosquito today that was so big he could f*** a chicken flat footed.

Hot shower and bathe whole body with Nutrigena T Gel shampoo. Do it a couple times.

Finger nail polish doesn't work, tried it several times.

I almost killed myself with bleach. Came in from hunting covered in chiggers, bites all over me from my neck to my ankles. Was told to run a bath tub full of water as hot as I can stand it, and pour a cap full or two of bleach in and soak in it. I was itching so bad a cap full or 2 didn't sound like enough, so I poured close to a half gallon of bleach in and turned on the fart fan. When it hit me it was too late. Tried to stand up but couldn't, everything was spinning and could hardly move my arms & legs. I crawled out of the tub on my belly and finally got the door open, then crawled into the hallway and laid there necked. That's how my wife found me, I could hardly respond to her. She almost called 911, that would have really been embarrassing. Was a pretty stupid thing to do, but I was ate up all over and itching like mad and just wanted to kill the little bass turds. hammer

and no, after all of that the bleach didn't work either.

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 04:13 AM

Chiggers do not get under the skin. They bite you and leave. They have an enzyme that they inject when they bite you. It will itch for several days The various treatments to kill them don't work because they are not there. I had bites so bad the Dr knocked me out to keep me from scratching. I was covered in bites from the waist down. Best to keep them off before they can bite and take Benadryl for the itching.

My chigger prevention, put about a 1/2 - 1 cup sulphur in an athletic sock, tie it off, dust my waist, ankles, etc., store the sock in a ziplock bag. Works well for me. Hate the scrotum biting bastages!

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 01:32 PM

What I have found works for me is to take a Zyrtec if I know I am going be in taller grass or weeds that have chiggers. I found this out about 3 or 4 yrs ago when I got chiggers on my ankles. I had allergies bad that same day and took a Zyrtec and noticed the chigger bite did not itch anymore. May not work for you but it works great for me.

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 02:20 PM

I know God made all creatures, but he is going to have to explain chiggers, mosquitoes, and fire ants to me when I get to heaven. Skinner is right, if you get them bad you will almost set yourself on fire to get rid of them.
Sulphur is about only thing I have ever found to really deter them.

I have been selling Benadryl since 1976. generic name is Diphenhydramine. It is the same product that has been sold
since 1946.

I don't know what you are buying , but the real stuff is still on the shelf smile

Also works for mosquito bites, you can get some relief if you take any antihistamine pills.

Re: Chiggers! - 05/26/21 09:43 PM

We have had so much rain at the farm the cows can't even begin to keep up with the grass. It is already 2' tall in places and I can see it being 3' in the next couple of weeks. Prime habitat for chiggers. They don't bother me(knock on wood) but the grand-kids got a few bites.

Quote
During the wet season, chiggers are usually found in tall grass and other vegetation.[26] During dry seasons, chiggers are mostly found underneath brush and shady areas.[25][27] Standing still or lying in tall grass gives them more time to climb onto a person.
