Harleys - 05/18/21 05:54 AM

Who rides? I had a 2015 fat boy lo for about a year that I had to sell back when the oil field crashed and I changed careers. Have the itch bad for a new bike now though.

74 Sportster bought new...still ride about 1-2 times a month. Moving to Az soon so grandson will get possession of the ol gal. Still in excellent shape with 22k on it.
May buy another in Az but gonna have to be something the gf can be comfortable on and an ol sporty ain’t it.

Never had the chance. Rode behind on a couple of trips. Never felt comfortable.

Going to sell it though.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 11:38 AM

Want one bad, real bad but just am not going to do it. Hell, people pull out right in front of me in a damn pickup truck and can't see me so I am not going to get on a bike anymore.

I will settle for cruising around on either my 4 wheeler or the side by side I guess........hell of a lot safer than on the road with the morons on it today

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 11:43 AM

I used to.

2001 Yamaha Virago 250 (my starter/learner bike)
2002 Honda Shadow Sabre
2006 Harley Fat Boy
2008 Harley Street Glide

Sold the Street Glide to make a down payment on our small piece of Texas. I like being a landowner better.

Not worth the risk anymore. Too many stupid azz drivers out there with all their distractions , cell phones . GPS, etc. Bikers are organ donors these days.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 12:30 PM

I've ridden Harley's for 30 years. Sold my 2014 Street Glide in 2018. Too many close calls with distracted drivers in the metro mess. No regrets, do not miss it. If I were to ever buy a new bike I would be taking a hard look at the offerings from Indian. Harley Davidson has some serious financial issues and may not be around in 5 years.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 12:57 PM

Back many moons ago, Bought a new (1976) Super Glide FX ($3,600) and kept it 4 years. Had 1250 miles on it when I sold it. Working 7 days a week back in my old oilfield days there was no time to ride. Sold it and made $1000 over what I paid for it. That Shovelhead shook like a meth head zipped to the max.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 01:10 PM

I did until last year. Arthritis in my left hand forced me to end my two wheelin' days.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 01:24 PM

Dirt bikes were my thing in my younger days, never really got into street or road bikes. When I hit 40 I went on a short road trip with a couple of friends and was loaned a 883 Sportster (Not sure that's the proper name) looking bike. I think they called it a Poker Run (We'd get a card at each stop) and it was 200 plus mile loop up to Post and back. The 883 was one of the smaller if not smallest road bike they made at the time and since I'm not a big biker guy it fit me rather well. By the time we completed the run my arms were damn near numb from the vibration. My bike was like a stripped down version and I'm sure the bigger bikes were a lot smoother riding. I came real close to buying that bike and kind of wish I had now. For short trips or running around in the county it would have been fine. I guess that's another one of those regret's I'll just have to take to the grave.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 01:49 PM

Every chance I get. Have 3 of them depending on where and when I’m riding. Street glide is my go to scooter. Heading to Mena, Arkansas next week. Do what makes you happy, you have an itch, scratch the damn thing.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 02:15 PM

Been fighting the urge. Rode most of my life. Mom and dad talked me off the street but i continued racing on dirt for a while then got rid of everything. I've been eyeballing a vrod, liquid cooled is a must for me. Yup. Mom and dad are still helping me fight that urge, lol, might just get another dirt bike, friggin bicycle just ain't cuttin it

Some don't. My StepDad long gone, rode a full dresser until he was 80. Quit when He couldn't pick it up after dropping it.

I really like the looks of the 2021 lowrider S.

I put 3500 miles on mine in one year. Here’s my one surviving picture from the divorce.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 06:05 PM

I been riding Harleys since the early 60's and built my first chopper from the ground up in 67-68 including engine overhaul to 80 cu in.Rode it for several years then gave it and a 1955 Sportster KHK w/P cams up for horses.Several years later lost those and everything to a evil woman in a divorce.Everything except my pickup and she didnt want my dog and I had to fight her in court for my guns.
Fast forward,
After several Harleys I got one that my current wife has rode the wheels off almost round the world except the extreme E coast.

Rode 1991 fatboy until 2010 and sold it with 35,000. Purchased 1992 electraglide in 1998 and put 40,000 miles on it before selling it in 2010 also. Been to NASCAR in South Carolina twice, motorcycle races in Wisconsin, niagra falls, Yellowstone twice, Grand Canyon, Big Bend, key west, sturgis twice. Loved riding and thinking continuously about getting another one

I've had Honda's to Harley's.........................
Been riding, since the 70's......... But vertigo, and idiots, put an end to it..........
I've spent my hospital time...........I'm done...... But, what a ride it was.....
But, I will say this...... The Honda 750.... and the Gold Wing, are the two finest
bikes on the planet.........Bar none...........

'01 FLHT. Had a blast on it. Wife was less enthused than I was when I sold it it about 10 years ago.

All I have to show for it now is a separated shoulder. Anymore, I wish I had another one about 4 days a year.

Re: Harleys - 05/18/21 09:03 PM

I've had 3 HDs, 3 Kawis, 1 Suzuki, 2 Yamahas - road dirt for many years and a couple of hundred thousand miles on the streets, until I sold the last street bike about 5 years ago when the crazy drivers made me give it up...for now. Currently get my kicks on a Kubota and Kawi side by side.

Never a Harley guy. Always been a crotch rocketeer... blame it on those early 80s Shogun Warriors (Japanese robot toys). You guys on two wheels... please be careful.

Sold my ‘80 model 80” low rider three years ago, miss it every once in a while.
Started on hondas in early ‘70’s. Had a 300 dream, a cb 175, and a cl 450.
Then a Kawasaki 500 triple, it’s a wonder that I didn’t kill myself on that freaking rocket.
And then on to Harleys, first a sportster and then three big inch bikes before the lowrider.
Been a helluva ride !
