Mosquito Control

Mosquito Control - 03/05/21 02:16 PM

Alright, it's definitely that time of year and I'm not looking for a repeat of last year where my kids would come in with 20-30 bites after being outside for 15 minutes.

Looking to see what y'all do for DIY and/or who you call. Guessing you could use Bifen but are you fogging or spraying? Every 4 weeks?

From the same people who uses Ladybugs in their vegetable gardens.

Yeah, I'd rather do it organically rather than kill everything with pesticides like sevin since you have no regard for anything other than yourself.

I use a Backpack style fogger with permethrin and pyrethrin, sometimes add some nylar growth inhibitor especially if there are breeding areas. These combinations have quick knock down and a residual effect. Do it about every 3 weeks. Or if I’m having an outdoor event, hit it with pyrethrin just before. A company in Georgia and online (Bugspray.com) has great info and suggests products and ships them. I use them as a source of reference for all pests , from beavers to whiteflies. They explain life cycles and various remedies. Even bought my fogger from them.

I was too. Although technically correct it has skyrocketed.

Random fact- They actually studied its effects in 89 and 03 and found it had no hatchability affects but did decrease reproduction % of hatched birds exposed.

Absolutely, not a fan of heavy use of chemicals around the house. I'll use some in spots to control bugs or weeds but that's about it.

I used Spartan the last couple of years. Mosquitos were down, guess it worked.

Be sure to check rain gutters if you have them.

Man when we were in Florida a guy had a mosquito magnet.........ran off propane. It would make your eyes bug out the amount he would catch in a 24 hour period.........every day. There were never less mosquitos. Every day it looked like millions were trapped.

I've put up a couple of bat houses over the years but never had any bats take up residence. Is there a trick to it? Does it need to face a certain way or something?

I use Spartan and a propane fogger machine that I spray about once a month. Seems to keep mosquitoes in check [Linked Image]

Buy your kids a computer and they'll never go outside.

We use this and it works pretty well. Says it’s people and pet proof, and haven’t noticed any issues with our dog or chickens.

I can’t remember the name, but it sounds like what FTB64 is talking about. Saw it either here or on the TFF a few years ago, but it worked for an area that covered an acre, ran off propane, and killed millions and millions of mosquitos. It was ridiculous how full the trap was when the guy in the video emptied it. I’d love to have one of those, but the stuff I linked to above works good enough for us.

Same thing here, plus a thermacell where we're hanging out. They work, but nothing gets ALL of them. The fogger keeps them out for at least 24 hours and does more than anything else. We have a lot of shrubs give them plenty of places to hide.

Some pest control folks recommended this thing.

Anyone ever try it?

I dont think much can be done in a yard, maybe on a large property something can be accomplished.
