I’ve lost the desire

Posted By: BigPig

I’ve lost the desire - 02/26/21 08:19 PM

Ive lost the desire to build things I can buy at a reasonable price. It’s never mattered in the past, if I could build it for the same price I could buy it for, I’d build it just for fun. Now, I find myself buying more things than building. There are still things I build because I want them a particular way, but those seem to never get finished roflmao

I only mess with things that interest me or are urgent. Other than that I’m like oxner, I call the man. Fortunately I love outside work.

Re: I’ve lost the desire - 02/26/21 09:03 PM

Same goes with fixing things. I paid a shop to replace the rear brakes on my wife's Tahoe today. I could've done it myself and saved $150-200 but I simply don't have the time. I'd rather coach my son's baseball team in a tournament this weekend. The plan is to play all day Sunday and bring home another trophy (ring) and help build more great memories for him. But he is missing a learning opportunity in replacing disc brakes!

I’m a project idea guy. The really awesome ones actually get started. The really REALLY awesome ones get completed. The incomplete ones remain right where they were left. I may have 100 going right now. This is MY disease.

Well, around here the plumbing ‘man’ is just a bit busy. I spent the afternoon fixing PVC plumbing. Here I now sit with blue fingers from the primer and glue, and drinking red wine.

I did finally get the Propane man, the Generac man, and the septic man. Still a ways from being fully fixed here and there.

Had a choice today of tearing down a carb and fixing it with $2 worth of new gaskets. Or just buying a new one for $20 and bolting it on. I went with the 2nd option. My HS industrial arts teacher would be so ashamed of me. frown

Well he is dead by now. He would probably buy what you did now.

A big difference in knowing how and knowing when not to.

In the last 6 months I've done a full wooden swing set/playhouse and a barbie dream house. Think the dream house was worse.

roflmao Help build a pretty girly playhouse for my nieces when they were little, use it for a backyard deer blind now. None of the anti/crybaby neighbors suspect we hunt out of it. It's perfect LOL. Pop a deer from the playhouse, drag it into the garage quick/close garage door. Lay down plastic on the floor/hang from ceiling/clean deer. Roll plastic up/throw away/open door.....howdy neighbor....what deer? grin

Re: I’ve lost the desire - 02/27/21 01:53 AM

I was getting that way, but it gets to me watching people fumble around with trying to repair or build something. Just watching the dumb mistakes and hen house ways make me go back to doing it myself.

I’m with ya bud before we had Colt I used to tinker and work on all kinds of projects. Now the only think I build/tinker on is ARs. Now I’m so busy with side jobs and Colt I can’t keep up with any projects.

Kyle, he never finished projects before or took too damn long. His wife is a good source on this. I see why he pays "the man" roflmao

Re: I’ve lost the desire - 02/27/21 03:31 AM

It's a process of getting older and being more successful. At one point I wouldn't think of paying someone to paint my house. It would be too cost effective to do it myself. The older I get, the more valuable my time is. I hired a buddy who is a painter to paint the exterior of the house. Wife told me I should pay them to do the fence too. I said I could do it myself! She said, When? So... I paid to have it painted.

I feel ya. Between the spawn and selling real estate full time, along with my popo night job, I’m finding I have more money less time and loosing the desire to do some projects. Some projects I’m glad I lost the desire.

It was only after I retired that I realized the abundance of tools and "stuff" I had acquired through the years to build and maintain things around the house. I'm still trying to figure out why they now seldom get used.
