New tires for 1/2 ton truck

I have a standard half ton 1500 extended cab pickup.
Inquiry about the Kumho tires, sold by Discount tire, Pathfinder HT. Just highway miles . Compare to the Goodyear.
Has anyone have any experience with these tire or would you just buy the Goodyear ones, about $70 difference in cost?

Michelin's for me when its time. 70,000 mi

Got 80K miles on Hankook from Discount tire 6 years. DT and Hankook now have the same brand exclusively for Discount. Great highway rubber. Since Discount now has an exclusive on this it cost me $300 less than previous purchase 6 years ago.

Goodyear is at the bottom of my list. I have no opinion on the Pathfinder. Never ran them.

Currently have the factory Goodyear on my truck. Cant wait to get rid of them.

IMO the best highway tire out there. Quiet, great traction and lasts.

I've never ran Kumho.
Before you commit, check the ratings and reviews on Continentals.

The continentals that came on my wife's tahoe aren't my favorite. Only 30k miles on them and we may get another 10k before I think they'll be unsafe. My biggest complaint about them is that there's small cuts in all of the tread. At first i thought it was due to the wife just turning the wheels hard before actually moving, but the rears are doing the same thing. Good street traction, but won't last. Her next set will either be a set of Coopers or Michelins.

FYI the factory tires on most it not all vehicles have less tread depth than the same replacement tire. A few places do sell the factory tire and it’s significantly cheaper than standard tire.

Interesting the continental tires on my wife’s crossover did the same thing. It bugged the hell out of me but we still got 83,000 miles on them only replaced due to age and cracking.

For sure. I get 60,000 or so on Coopers. I spend a significant amount of time on rough caliche roads. They are priced right as well.

I’m going 55K on my Nitto G2’s and they’re doing ok.

FYI, they do rotations for free for me on my OEMs. Not sure about flat repairs. I think my ex and daughter had magnets in their tires.

How much do you drive? Do you commute or travel long distances? I go on the cheap side since I started working from home. I might drive 3000 miles in a year and that's stretching it. You might consider getting a better quality brand otherwise.

I'm retired don't drive that much, just short distance nice or twice a week.

Have 30K mileage on my Dueler Revo 3 ATs and lots of life on them still, guessing another 30K or more. They really hold up well and run quiet for ATs.

It doesn't matter if you live in the city. They will be full of nails in a week. I just put trailfinder AT on my f150. Feel good.

I've had Kumhos they have a pretty soft sidewall. I like the Ridge Grapplers they're not terribly aggressive but they will get you where you need to go. My wife's lifted F250 4 wheel drive diesel had 35x12.5x20 inch tires on it and we got about 55 or so thousand miles out of them.

Have 185,000 miles on my Tundra and just put on my 3rd set of BF Goodrich T/A KO2's. I am sold on them.

Are you suggesting AT tires last longer? Have seen several sets of michilin's do 100+k Got 90K on a set of bridgestone street tires on a tahoe. Got 83K on my wifes crossover suv tires only replaced due to age and cracking.

ATs and MTs normally have softer tread and will never last as long as a HT. They are also heavier. If truck does not leave highway and does not tow then a HT P rated is probably best. Some people buy aggressive tires for looks which to me is like buying a 4x4 that never leaves the pavement. At least in most of Texas.

What tires came on it from the factory?

Goodyear came on the truck, have 55,000 miles on them

I will never buy Goodyear’s. I have a 2WD Tundra and I run Nitto G2’s. I can fly on the hiway and they run just like butter.

Buy a tire that your happy with and reasonably priced and be happy with your decision.

Do you have any proof/documentation on that? I have heard that, I've also heard that the auto makers get the tire manufacturers to make them special runs of tires with softer compounds so they are quieter and smoother and that they ask them to make them cheaper etc.

I never toss the factory tires, I always run them till they're dead and I have seen no difference in them. Even replaced the factory tires with exact same tire from Discount and had nearly identical service/mileage. My bet is they are old wives tales.

You do the leg work. Discount tire offers the exact same tire with two different tread depths. I was first told this at the Ford dealership.

Don’t know about the tread thing but it is a place they cut expense.

3sets 125k on wife's suburban, never again. I ordered a set of Toyo ATIII, was going to go RT but changed due 60k warranty

I've done the leg work for me. As a non auto industry employee I believe it is a farce. I've gotten great service and high mileage out of all the factory original new tires I've ever had. I was hoping you had some info other than just the same old well they used cheaper tires.

I have similar, crappy experiences with OEM tires. My 2020 tundra came with junk bridgestones and they have 20k on them. My 2010 tundra has michelin defender ltx tires...with around 30k on them. The bridgestone tires look like they've been on the road for much longer, while the michelins still look brand new. Both are the exact truck, just 10 years apart.

Im kind of a vehicle nerd. I take care of mine, my parents and my brothers vehicles. Off the top of my head factory new tires.

My 1994 chevy came with uniroyal tiger paws. I was not a fan of them but they lasted between 60-70k miles
2004 duramax came with bridgestones ran for over 60,000 miles
2005 duramax came with same bridgestones ran for over 70,000 miles
2006 tahoe came with bridgestones ran for over 80,000 miles
2011 chevy z71 i bought new and sold to my uncle at 53,000 miles he raplaced them just before 70,000 (OEM bridgestones)
Wifes current ford escape came with continentals we got 83,000 miles on them
my 2015 ram 1500 came with goodyears i put 72,000 miles on them

It is a farce to me. People like to replace factory tires early because they don't like them.

Not going to argue your experience. Just voicing mine. I like money more than I can care about a tire. I will always run them until it's time to replace.

My F250 diesel came with Michelin (forget the specific model) which I believe I drove ~65k miles. I can confirm model and mileage but a more specific number doesn't matter. I could have gotten more mileage but I abused them and I was passed ready for something that didn't suck so bad off road.

It all depends on what you drive on most and tread design. My go to tire for years has been Michelin LMS now called Defender. The open tread channels on the edges makes a huge difference in heavy rain. My 2020 F150 came with GoodYear Wranglers and initially I thought I would take them off but after heavy rain driving, snow and then ice I'm sold on GoodYear tread, we'll see how the wear goes. My last truck came with Hankook (don't remember which model of tire) and I got rid of them at 10k, bad tread design and hydroplaned bad. Not ending up in the ditch or a head-on is obviously worth the extra $.
