Now to store the Honda 2800’s

Somebody that owns one please give me the details on how best to store the Honda 2800i generators till I need them again.

Can I drain the fuel on it, or should I run it dry? I’ll change the oil. Air filter is probably Ok.

If it's got a fuel shutoff valve. Turn it off. Start it up until it dies.
Put it in storage with a storage additive of your choice. I prefer Star Tron.

I have a good supplier of real gas, non-alcohol and with that I do not drain the mower or generator like I have had to do in the past. Cost 30 cents more a gallon but worth it. I filled up the generator and did not need it. i will drain it after the Spring storm season and use in the mower.

You only need to store one, the other is coming my direction right?

I will need to make a decision on whether or not to keep both, or sell one.

If it has a battery disconnect it.

How about "googling" that generator and reading the owners manual?

Fuel stabilizer and start it up once a month and let it run, I have 8 generators and I’ve never had a problem. I do run the ethanol free gas though which helps a lot.

Store it with True Fuel in it.

Why read through all that carp when you can cut to the chase here? You can also get expert medical advice, legal solutions to your problems and some dang fine recipes to wow your family and friends.

This is all I do. I keep seafoam in all my gas cans/generator/Polaris year round. Just start and run everything once a month and I’ve had zero issues.

Run them dry is the best method.

That’s way worse than letting them sit with old fuel, rubber inside the carb dries out but it mainly effects the rubber tip on the float valve and or the rubber on the air screw valves. Once they dry out your SOL and it’s time for a rebuild.

Especially 2 strokes.

Well, when a fellow has a couple too many generators, they won’t get used much, so I’ll follow the official long term storage procedure on 2 of them and keep the Honda 2200 for general ranch use. I’ve also ordered the official Honda 2800i covers. Must remain stylish.

Was also going to order a couple of the magnetic tip oil fill plugs, but can’t find them for the 2800’s. Yet.

I don't know on the 28 and 22 but the 2000 the on/off switch Will still leave fuel in carb.

You will need to take side panel off. The rubber tube the runs out from the carb is a drain tube. Flat head screw at bottom of the carb. It drains it.

Same here in the boat and dirt bikes, sea foam @1oz/gal and ethanol free is all they run on. If they sit for more than 3 weeks without use, I’ll start them up and let them run for 5-10 min.

I have a 3500 Generac I paid $150 for back in 1996 to a guy that used it once. I have used it a couple times on my fifth wheel until i got access to a diesel generator.
Others have used it a lot, oldest son used it last fall when OKC had the ice.

All i do is put fuel stabilizer in it, run it till it gets warm then shut it off. I make sure there is very little fuel in the tank. Everytime we use it, pull it once with the choke on
and second time with choke off it fires right up. Not bad for a 25 year old generator.

Most likely this summer/fall i'll get an electric start that can run the whole house and keep the diesel generator in Oklahoma on the farm. We use the piss out of it during
deer season running my travel trailer. It is actually an industrial light tower so standing the lights up and extending them makes it easy to see when skinning something out.
Top of the tower is also where i put my Wilson cell signal booster.

BS. Storing one with any fuel in it long term, even with an additive, will gum crap up much worse than running it dry. I have a Honda generator that I bought brand new in 1995 and ran it a few times. I ran it dry and it was in a non-climate controlled part of my barn and never has had fuel in it since then. I started it Monday on the first pull after putting gas and oil in it. You think one from that era would have started after having gas in it from 25 years ago?

Like some of you I keep nonethanol fuel on hand for generator and lawn equipment and back when I had vintage motorcycles. What would you guys estimate the shelf life of non ethanol fuel in a sealed plastic canister in a regular garage would be? 12 months? 24 months? I use Stabul as well.

How long are you storing it for? You know you will use it again in a month? or three? or you are putting it away till the next blizzard hits Texas?

If you will use it again in a month or so I would treat the fuel, start it let it warm up and and then turn the fuel shut off off and let it run till it dies.

If your putting it up for the LONG haul, I would clean it up drain the carb and fuel tank and squirt a little oil in the cylinder.

If it isn't time to change the oil I wouldn't.

If you are asking me, Redchevy, I’m doing exactly as you suggested. I’m not ready to put them up for the long haul just yet, so they remain gassed up.

I drain Carb after every use. Takes 20 seconds.
