Trail cam ID

Trail cam ID - 10/14/20 06:01 PM

About two week ago I had 3 hens and 1 guinea get snatched during the middle of the day. 1 a day during a 5-6 day period.

We lock them up at night but they free range during the day.

One of the days we were actually outside and my wife came and got me from the shop and said the birds were going nuts.

Before I could get to the coop it had snatched a hen a drug it back through the fence.

I immediately thought bobcat.

We kept them locked up for a few days until I could get the game cam going.

It had been a couple weeks with nothing until today.

Well, I need a way to catch it without catching my cats.

We tried calling but just called in a fox and a bunch of house cats.

Thinking maybe a live trap with chicken box.

Since you are with the Abilene FD, see if you can borrow a large animal live trap from animal control. Buying one could set you back a $100, if you have a welder you could build one, using 1/4" steel rod for a frame and 1x2 welded wire. Check with Jackson Brothers or Tractor Supply to buy one.

Do not let your house cats interfere with the pursuit of your goal

I know I could trap it in a foot trap but worried I'd end up catching our cats.

Thinking live trap with chicken cage attached..

I'd get a live trap and put it where it was crossing the fence with that chicken. Brush it in, wire it to stay open and run bait in it for several days. Then set it for real with the same bait.

Looks like a young bobcat. Has the dark markings on the tail but not many spots on the body.

Sure looks like a coon, but it’s probably a bobcat.
