Russian Hind helo pilot

I had a boat trailer-ed to New Orleans, talked to the guy on the phone a couple of times, he had a Russian accent, I used to speak Russian,,,, when he got to Temple to pick up my boat, I bought him dinner------- he had been in the Russian Army, flew the hind helo,,,, he did 2 tours in Afghanistan ---------- he told me that by the second week he was there he KNEW it was a waste of time and that 99% of the Russian soldiers thought the same thing. It was one of the most interesting conversations I have ever had. So after the Russians left, we took over and 20 yrs later are still there.
I asked why he wasn't flying helos now, he said he was here illegally and could not get a pilot license, hence he was driving trucks.

Interesting. DHS would probably like to have a chat with him.

Did he come into the country through Mexico?
I don’t know if I would turn my boat loose to an illegal alien.
Does he at least have a valid DL and insurance?

I've never met a Russian in Louisiana. Does he live in Florida? Parts of Florida seem over ran with Russians these days. Brighton Beach has been Russian for decades and Portland has a pretty large Russian community now too.

I think he had come down from Dallas, thru Temple,, he had a 4 wheeler in the back of his truck that he was also hauling to Baton Rouge. When I spoke Russian to him, it sort of dropped all of the usual barriers that he might have. Most of the conversation over dinner was in English, my Russian is not that good any more. He Had to go less than 60 mph because my tires on the trailer were more than 7 yrs old. He drove all night.

I know several Russians and Slavic people. All are great people. None that I know support communism or socialism. They're generally hard working and mentally strong.

I can imagine the frustration from legitimate immigrants towards illegals. I’ve worked with several legal citizens that were born elsewhere, and I know enough about them to believe that it isn’t that difficult to do it right.

In a little bit under 12 months my DIL will be taking her citizenship test. She came to the United States the correct way and can't understand why our government gives a penny to the illegals. She worked for an American company when she lived across the big pond so she already had a job when she stepped off of the airplane. It was her dream since grade school to move to the US. She entered the Diversity Visa Program and won one of the coveted Green Cards. All I can say is she is one American loving individual.

Soooooo.... wonder how many of the guys busting Booskay's balls about hiring the guy check for a green card on every hedge trimmer, bus boy and roofer that does work for them? The reality is that once illegals get in, and begin contributing in ways that improve our standard of living, it's very tough to bounce them back out. My first job was pouring concrete for 5 bucks and hour. The owner of the company made sure everyone was a legal resident because he is a responsible business owner.

We had illegals working on the ranch when I was a kid. They would work a month or so then head back to Mexico. Before they would head back many times they would want us to take them to town to buy clothes or shoes. Sometimes nearly spending the entire amount they had made. My Dad payed them $2 a day and provided food and a place to stay. That was back in the early 60's. Now I think it might be better to export all the legal folks that don't want to work and just want to live off the Government tit and keep the illegals that want to work.
