Old Granddad 114 is drinkable. Sort of. Harsh on the way down for sure.

There was a cask strength Crown Royal product several years ago. Cask 16.

Canadian whiskey should not be allowed across the border. I know the OP didn't say American but he probably meant to.

I like it a lot. Lets me decide how much water I want in it. There are a few I'll drink undiluted, but most improve with a little water added.

Booker’s runs 121-130 proof. Each batch is different. I’ve only had one that I didn’t like and that batch has been gone for years. Unfiltered, uncut. You get what you get.

My favorite is Stagg Jr at 126-132 proof. That stuff will sneak up on you.
1792 Full Proof is very good.
I need to try the Makers Mark Cask Strength.

If you like those two you'll enjoy the MMCS.

Depends on the person drinking it. I prefer them over 100 proof. Seems 115-130 is about right to me. I’ve had some in the 140 range and they were good too

Re: cask strength - 10/03/20 03:48 PM

Depends on the whiskey. I am currently loving the current batch (B520) of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. A little lower proof than normal, but still weighing in at 127.2 proof. Also digging my Blanton's Straight From the Barrel. This one is weighing in at 135.2 proof, but you would never know it as it drinks below its weight.

I have never been impressed by any other Texas bourbons that are cask strength. They are young and drink hot!

I can narrow that window to 125-127.9 for me.

Obviously you haven’t had IronRoot Harbinger or Kiepersol Jimmys

It is good stuff, but it’s gotten almost impossible to find. I have a couple distributor friends that can sometimes get me allocated bottles.

I wasn't aware that Jimmy's made a cask strength bourbon. I will be on the lookout for it. I have had their 90 proof version and thought it was just okay.

While I will say that the Harbinger is better than most Texas bourbons, I still don't love it. Been to the Ironroot distillery and met both of the Likarish brothers at tastings in the last couple of years and I think they are doing things right and I know a lot of folks love it.

The Jack Daniels “barrel proof” is some orrery good stuff

The Makers Cask strength has too bitter/acid aftertaste for my liking
