Really weird. I started mowing early this morning and "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" has been in my head the whole time. Haven't thought of that song in years. I came in for lunch, checked the news on my computer and bam, Charlie Daniels gone. Man was a true patriot, RIP.
Really sad day!! He is one of only 2 artists I went to see more than once. First time I saw him was about 20 years ago and had front row seats. Last time I saw him was just a few years ago at a July 4th outdoor concert, once again only feet from the stage. I was a little worried that being in his late 70's he might not still have it but I was wrong! He had the massive crowd on their feet the whole show which is hard to do at a outdoor venue. He was a guy that really loved music and loved his country. I heard him once say something to the effect of "I don't sing country music, I sing American music" and I agree.
"Well, you know what's wrong with the world today People done gone and put their Bible's away They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land The good book says it so I know it's the truth An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth You better watch where you go and remember where you been That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man."
Aaron Roberts "Country Boy" Charlie speaks at the end of the song.
"I love my country. I love my guns. I love my family. I love the way it is now. And anybody that tries to change it...has to come through me. That should be all of our attitudes. Because this is America, and a country boy is good enough for me, son."

That would be Aaron Lewis. I think George Jones made an appearance in that video as well.
