Good, cheap whiskey

Posted By: Cast

Good, cheap whiskey - 06/21/20 08:37 PM

Ok, we’ve seen and talked about a lot of good whiskey. I have a couple bottles in my stash, but my usual drink is a good cheap whiskey with a cold Fireman’s 4 back.

Let’s set a base line to define ‘cheap whiskey’. Let’s say that if it’s under $30 a fifth, that’s ‘cheap whiskey’.

Go!

Im going with Evan Williams. I pretty much never drink it but it makes for one hell of a BBQ sauce.

Funny thing. I no longer keep bourbon in my liquor cabinet. I borrowed a bottle from my neighbor when you and New Gulf came to visit. I returned it the next day untouched.

Jim Beam , Knob Creek. We toured their distillery a couple years ago. Very cool.

I like Bernheim's s for $28 at Specs. Dang good price for a 7 year bourbon.

Wild Turkey 101 also makes the cut.

I picked up some 1792 BIB at $28 each recently (I bought six for the case discount).

And Eagle Rare came in at $29 on my last bottle, 10 year, heck yeah!

Woodford Reserve hits the shelf at about $29, how could you go wrong?

And then Buffalo Trace's 750ml comes in well below $30.

Excellent thread Cast!

Just went up to $26.00 for the Big bottle 1.75 Litre and I enjoy it even if I am not a Connamanure of fine Whiskey laugh

Ok, here’s my secret good cheap whiskey. This is a half gallon bottle. It cost me fifteen bucks and change per bottle in a case lot. It comes in 100 proof too, but that’s not so cheap.

Wild Turkey 101

George Dickel 12 (not bourbon but it’s delicious)

Re: Good, cheap whiskey - 06/21/20 10:00 PM

Lately I’m drinking Wild Turkey 101. Used to drink Rebel Yell. Due to the political and PC climate, I might go back to Rebel Yell.

For a true cheap whiskey that’s good, Very Old Barton gets my nod. If you can find it, Eagle Rare use to be cheap.

Looks like there are no Rye or Scotch in the ones above

There are also some good Canadian and Irish Whiskeys that are cheap and pretty good.

Whiskey is such a general term.

Not exactly....Those are "Whisky"................"Whiskey" is bourbon and Kentucky Straight Bourbon is only made in one place on Earth.

No, whiskey is not bourbon, but bourbon is whiskey. Bourbon is at least 51% corn and made in the USA. Bill will tell you, look it up. Whiskey is a generic term.

No “e” whisky comes from Scotland. Every thing else is whiskey.

I saw a few mentions for WT101. The WT101 Rye makes a killer old fashioned.

6 good whiskeys that are less than $15 a 1/5.

There’s no way to even begin to list all the good whiskeys at the $30 price point.

Some of the ones listed above a garbage. If you want to know which ones PM me.

If you want to start a list of great whiskeys keep it under $50 and under $75, two different lists .
