Question: National Guard / Police shoot paint ball at home owner

Question: National Guard / Police shoot paint ball at home owner - 05/31/20 09:19 PM

Question for our LEO members.

This doesn't seem right to me that someone on their porch would be fired upon. How would you know it's a paintball? And, wouldn't someone be in their rights to return fire under castle law? This just seems like a recipe for disaster to me? And perhaps I'm missing something. Lay some perspective on me.

It was a fog of battle type of mistake compounded by rioters retreating to house porches and pretending they belonged there. I'm interpreting what was said by the head of the Minnesota State Patrol.

The folks on the porch may not understand the English language based on their lack of response, but they are absolutely fluent in pepper ball.

How many of you would jump up and run inside if you were sitting on your front porch?

Minneapolis curfew order allows you to be on your porch unless directed to go inside. They will probably move faster next time.

I wouldn't live in that crap hole. But given the situation yes I'd be inside. No reason to be a prick to the police in that situation they are trying to save your home, your lively hood possibly your life. All while risking theirs.

Interesting to see if the use of such force is really legal\constitutional?

With the virus situation, it has made me wonder a bit about legitimate authority.

And I respect the law and those who enforce it.

But what the hell is going on in these times.

1. How many go inside when a tornado is coming? Yes, I know. Apples and oranges. However, I'm not sure I can constitutionally be "ordered" off my porch and into my house. Can I?
2. I consider more than one LEO my personal friend, and would be glad to back them up if ever the need arose. However, I don't think I'd be firing on a homeowner because they were standing on their porch.
3. This public optics of this are awful and I'm not sure I don't agree.

That's why I asked. I wanted to get a perspective that perhaps the video wasn't offering because I must be missing something.

That wasn’t Nazi-like, at all. People sitting on their porch, doing nothing wrong, getting harassed by police. Yep, just do what your told. Nothing wrong with that, at all.

Isn't this almost what happened verbatim during the bombing at the Boston Marathon?
