....so what's the point of parking like this? IF I had a bike that nice I would want it parked as far away from the passing cars as I could get it.

When there’s a car on both sides it keeps a vehicle from whipping in and rear ending your bike.

Or decidiing that there is room for both. "I was just going to be a minute..."

And you don't have to back the bike up to get out of the space. Just make a hard left turn from there.

Or if you do have to back it out, it’s not but a little bit.

In Abilene the odds would be pretty good that someone would park on the left side straddling the crosswalk area and the parking space

Too lazy to back the bike up when leaving. Just pull forward and turn out with the extended walkway next to the bike.

There could have been another bike parked on the left and further in the same spot that had to leave earlier.

I wouldn't ever park like that. Maybe he has bad knees or can't back it up for some reason? I always backed in, slanted sideways, so someone else wouldn't try to park in the same spot but centered enough car doors wouldn't hit my bike.

A lot of bikers are special. They think that because they put themselves at more risk, due to their hobby, that everyone else should accommodate them. Same reason they ride right on the center line of the highway and expect you to avoid them. Same reason they run in packs doing 10 under and expect you to not pass them. Not all bikers are this democratic, of course, but many are.

Bikes always get me when I think I won the lottery by finding an open spot at the mall

Bingo. We have a winner. Its like some don’t realize that a collision between a bike and anything is a loss for the bike.

Put some mufflers on them then maybe they would not be so offensive.
