SWA credit card?

SWA credit card? - 02/21/20 10:32 PM

Probably gonna put away the Cabela's Visa; they're going down and I have too much hunting crap as it is. I have a Chase Sapphire, but I want a 2nd, backup card. New grandbaby coming at the end of March and she's far away. Anybody on here have the Southwest Airlines Visa and how do you like it? I thought it might help defray some of the expenses of seeing our newest baby girl. Thanks in advance. up

I've had one for awhile now, I have no major complaints. The only thing with SWA, they don't have as nearly many direct flights to a lot of places such as United will offer.

To give you an example we are going to Napa next month, we have direct flights into Oakland. Flying out we looked into Sacramento, Oakland and San Francisco, none of them have direct flights for the Sunday we are leaving. If you have all the time in the world to get around then it really won't affect you too bad.

Same here. I fly at least once a month. They'll also send coupons for free on-flight drinks after a few flights.

I have stock in LUV but never considered a credit card.

I had one when I worked. We kept the airplane in Oakland. I used Business Select every time I flew to Oakland so I accumulated a lot of points plus I got to be seated first. I retired 8 years ago and used my last free flight in Sept of this last year. After that I got rid of the card. If you like SW and need to fly where they go it is a good card. But you have a yearly fee and have to spend a considerable amount of money to justify it. I now have a cash back card with no yearly fee and it suits me better.

I have the Chase Chase Sapphire Reserve, but I am dropping it in Oct, before the next annual fee. They are increasing the annual fee by $100\year and it no longer makes sense.

The SWA card is one of my contenders to replace the Sapphire card with.

Done right, you can qualify for a companion pass early in the year you get the card, in addition to all of the miles. Depending on your spending, its pretty easy to score the companion pass by mid-year, and enjoy 18 months of free travel for you significant other.

A little advance vacation and long weekend planning and you can make out like a bandit for that 18 months.

Yep. Every year I'm A-list Preferred with Companion Pass. Separate from Companion Pass, I've stopped counting how many free flights I give away annually to family and friends.

SWA sucks.

For the grandbaby, get a UPromise card. Adds $ to a 529 for their college fund.

Then pay for your own airfare on something other than the Greyhound of the sky. smile

Yeah we got one a few years ago and love it. We fly often and have paid very little as we usually have enough points to fly for free. SWA isn't the nicest plane in the sky but staff is nice and Love field is easier than DFW. I too have a referral link if anyone wants to sign up.

I have had mine since 1998. Balance of a crapload of points. Over 300,000 last I saw. Used to sell them easy when they did paper vouchers. You sell now they send a nasty letter to you if you get caught...
