Food reviews???

Food reviews??? - 02/21/20 06:08 PM

If you look at the reviews when deciding where to go for dinner, do the reviews match the place? Here lately we have hit some places that have 4.75 stars and the food is carp.... What say you?

I don't use yelp etc. My inlaws use it and reviews quite a bit. What I find is that places that rank very high on the reviews I find myself wanting to walk out after I look at the prices.

Sucks to hear but after 46 yrs I would assume its gonna take more time to get them back . maybe try more spicy foods.

I quit 7 months ago and so far I can't tell any real difference in the way foods taste. I have gained some weight though since I still have those cravings and will eat something instead of smoking.

Food is such a personal choice. I have found that most people accept mediocre food and call it great. Maybe there's so much bad food out there a little OK food becomes 4.75 on a review. I think most of the reviews that are high on the scale come from folks that don't cook. I don't think they know what good food is. The quality of ingredients matters to me. To some, not so much. Look how popular Burger King and Jack in the box are. Don't get me wrong I'll eat a Jack in the crack taco any day but overall their food sucks. Both keep opening new stores. I don't recommend much either because when I do sometimes people come back with "how can you think that's good" BS. Just look at all the good BBQ places now and I still see more Dickey's opening up barf. I like to try new places and discover good spots by chance. I'll eat just about anywhere once.

haha, I agree with you and the others . Ill stick with old school word of mouth and my spidey senses. 100 dollars for 4 burgers and chicken nuggets and fries , no one finished the burgers, was the 4.75 stars. I also needed 2 tums to make it through the night.

Food is a lot like movies for us. Sometimes the reviews suck and we really enjoy it, other times the reviews are great and we are not impressed.

It's all relative. So, we use reviews for things like how good or bad the service is, portion sizes, pricing, stuff like that... but don't pay as much attention to the actual food reviews unless it overwhelmingly sucks.

To many un honest reviews that are staged and what not to win awards.

Yelp is so so to poor and Trip advisor is pretty good. I see a lot of garbage posted in the on the roads section here but there are a few that know their stuff.

Ate supper at a place I’ve been to several times. Good burgers and decent chicken fried steak. But, due to my diet, today I had a hamburger steak. Good Lord, it was awful. My wife had crab cakes, and gave me half of one. Nasty. Couldn’t get the nasty fishy taste out of my mouth.

Soooo, my point is that a restaurant might do some things pretty well and be the pits on some other foods.

Only complaints I've ever had about your posts is that you always hold something back. Why don't your ever tell us what you really think? confused2

Why hold back? If it needs saying, say it. I paid $34 for a meal that sucked. I won’t mention the name of the place. This darned diet I’m on has me eating foods I’d normally not eat and eating less food overall, so when I do get to eat I’m expecting something worthwhile.

I used to live in New Orleans, where you had to work hard to get a bad meal. Now I’m in fried food world - fried chicken, fried catfish, fried steak, French fries, fried onions. Not many decent unfried food options. Of course, I do happen to like fried foods, but can’t have any. Darn it!

Luckily, the wife is a great cook, so I’ll live.
