Years ago you had to hold on to your current old license until they expired.

I believe you still have to hold it Ox but I could be wrong

Online is the way to go, it took me 50 seconds.

At Wally World, you have to deal with a clueless young kid plus you risk to get shot as well.

No reason to unless you are going to be fishing between now and the 1st.

I stop at TP&W's law enforcement office and get mine. Rarely is there anyone there and I am finished in no time.

Re: Texas Hunting License - 08/15/19 10:13 PM

Bought 1 fishing license in my whole life. That was in Galveston and I feel like I wasted my money then. Never been approached by a game warden.

Age 65 for a senior license

I just picked mine up at Academy, in and out in 10 minutes. At the beginning of 2020 my lifetime license will be paying for it’s self.

I've never been checked fishing, just dove hunting. DONT want to get caught doing either illegally but that's just me. I consider it my donation to keep our game protected from AH poachers and illegal hunters and fisher people.

Going to Galveston in a week, hope to use my Red Drum tag !!!

Re: Texas Hunting License - 08/15/19 10:28 PM

I've been doing the online purchase thing since it was an option. The email they send you (on your phone) is your license for anything not needing a tag (like dove and most fish) until your actual license gets to you. You can get online and buy one opening morning of dove season and be good to go. The email comes pretty quick, just a few minutes.

Got mine. Went to the TP&W office and nobody in line.

Make sure you get the Feral Hog Stamp and tags if you think you want to shoot hogs this year. They are free but you have to ask for them.

I'm not to fond of waiting in a long line the day before and won't buy it online and your old license should be good till the first!

Got mine on the 15th. They had to reprint mine twice because the new gal behind the counter couldn't get things right.

New one wasn't "in effect" yet, is how he put it.

I understand where they're coming from, but you'd think they could look it up and see that you have a valid license. You get a verbal warning to hold onto it and it's a done deal.

These days they can look it up.
Back then it wasn't possible.
I got a copy of the old license and sent it to the JP. He dropped the ticket.

Right, me either...

I know you can buy fishing as pro rated or however they term it, so those valid dates may not run concurrent to the hunting license if you go that route, what I did 2 years ago.

So easy, this year they have it set up to where it had everything I added to my license last year so I didn't have to go through everything and click all the boxes, like the one year I forgot to add the HIP cert to mine after buying it.

I noticed that too.
And I left off the HIP one year.

I have purchased my license online the last 3 years or so. It's so much easier.

Re: Texas Hunting License - 08/16/19 03:36 PM

I went to Academy and there was only one guy ahead of me and he was finishing up.
Federal Duck Stamp and print off Lifetime Combo license and tags.

Back when I first got my Lifetime (1991) there was a lady down Austin you could call. Part of her job was to take care of the Lifetime License program. That was easy and she was fun to chat with.
The Duck Stamp you could get at the Post Office.

This is my new license. Valid 08/15/19 through 08/31/20

I guess they changed it. I do not know where last years license is right now, otherwise I would see if it was different last year.

Wondering about this. If I shoot a deer and haul it to a processor with no paper tag, am I legal? If I shoot a legal buck, take it home and process it myself, what keeps me from shooting another one?

No. Processor would not take it without tag.
Morals, but neither would be a legal buck.

No, you're not legal. The "digital" license they email to you is only valid for fish and game not requiring a tag.

Edited to add: Oh, and about the dusk stamp. The first time I ordered it with my online license I nearly tossed it in the trash. It came separately in a very non-descript white envelope that looked a whole lot like junk mail.
