are the taxidermists getting caught up on mounts? getting supplies, etc? i know a few who stopped taking work and some who were quoting a year+ for completion. just checking.

I don't know about service but I know the price is going up, what I used to get done for 600 is now 750.

Last time I talked to our taxi he said the tanneries were now the variable that was killing them.

Talked to him again today and he said it’s random supplies that are the issue now. Glass eyes are one thing he mentioned so it sounds like they are still working with supply issues.

I had taken mine to the Taxidermist on December 18th, 2020. I'm hoping this whitetail shoulder mount will be ready the end of this month (April 2022.)

It's probably got something to do with who you're using (and they're probably using COVID as an excuse for being slow, to an extent).

I shot a buck in November 2018 and got it back in April 2019. I shot another buck in December 2020 and got it back in June 2021. Both were the same taxidermist. One before the pandemic and one during. Same price for both and the same general turnaround time.

Obviously things could have changed in that time.

I took my Wyoming bull elk to my taxidermist (Dustin Cade Taxidermy in Royse City) in October of 2021 and picked it up last week which was approximately five months. This is the fourth mount he has done for me and it has never taken longer than six months. He always does a great job as well.

My rule of thumb with taxidermists is to pick two:

Good, fast, or cheap

and understand that:
If you want it good and cheap, it won't be fast.

If you want it fast and cheap, it won't be good.

If you want it good and fast, it won't be cheap.

I have been using Alpine in Fort Worth for years. Less than a year turnaround always…… usually about 6 months. Had stuff there during COVID and it did not seem to affect the amount of time to get it back.

Prices have gone up on everything including taxidermy.
