As I'm working in Texas, and it has always been my handicapped adult sons dream to harvest a boar, I put up the $$ to have my oldest son take his brother to a "hunting ranch" in Riverside California to help fulfill his dream.
As my son has no use of his right arm and struggles with a brace on his right leg, it was quite the endeavor walking up and down hills and canyons all day in search of the rumored " giant boar".
I'm told that about 2:00 in the afternoon they spied him about 200 yards down in a canyon, it is very difficult for Thomas to shoot with one arm and he needs an eye patch on his right eye.
The ranch guide helped him steady shooting down at a steep angle using a tripod stand.
The first shot was with a .308 Winchester, but only knicked his nose resulting in mad squealing and running in the canyon.
My son saw the scope jump and realized it had gotten loose.
The second shot was with a 7mm Rem mag, and it was a solid hit but they couldn't tell where.
The guide took them down to the opening of the canyon and they found him, he jumped up, and the final 7mm was a heart shot, and plop !!
The ranch skinned and quartered it all up , actually smaller because it was a 600 lb boar, dressed at 286 on the hook.
They took the meat to a butcher and ended up with 190 lbs of sausage.
Well we got the open mouth mount back for his birthday, omg !!
I would love to hear Thomas tell the story when he thinks I'm not around.
We all know how these ranch hogs go ,....but damn, its a crazy looking thing !
