Made something similar to gar balls with canned salmon. Flattened them out a little first.

Out of the can I’d rather have Tuna, but I will on occasion eat salmon from the can.

I had enough salmon patties in my youth, that they are rarely on our menu anymore. Mom used make a salmon salad mix for sandwiches that was pretty good when served on toasted wheat bread. A little mayo, a little mustard, chopped celery, pickle relish and some seasoning, served with sliced pickles and tomato slices. Add potato chips and that was a meal.

My siblings and I sent our parents on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th anniversary. I haven’t had much canned salmon, but the canned, smoked salmon they brought back with them was absolutely amazing. But regular canned salmon is a pass for me.

I eat a lot of it. Substitute it for tuna anywhere you would use canned tuna. I think it has a lot more flavor. Salmon salad on a cracker is great.

Got to be the weirdest opening post ever on a hunting forum. Congratulations and welcome.

To answer your question, no. Not since I was a kid.

We still have have it around here salmon patties and home fries. The red salmon is the BEST and once I get patties made up I roll them in corn meal then fry up. Straight out of the can with hot sauce and crackers is pretty good too.

I really like the canned salmon for salmon patties, but I don't remember ever eating it any other way.

We use the boneless pink salmon. Probably eat salmon patties, baked in the oven 1/2 dozen times a year. Been eating them since I was a kid. My mother bought the can that had the bones in it and she fried them.

Re: Canned salmon - do you eat it? - 05/03/21 02:09 PM

Many decades ago my family took a long vacation to the west coast and followed it all the way up, across Canada and back to TX in a 1963 Ford Country Squire station wagon. When we hit Oregon we bought a bunch of smoked salmon and then hit the Tillamook cheese factory. From there we nibbled on that daily until we got back to TX. Never have I been in a vehicle that smelled so bad in my life (OK once, when I spilled some Bob Cat urine in my truck). The smell of old socks and tennis shoes was over powered by the smell of smoked salmon and cheese. I've never had a bite of Salmon since.

2- small cans salmon, 2 eggs, crushed Ritz crackers, chopped onions, chopped de-seeded jalapeno, Dijon mustard, old bay seasoning, dill weed, garlic, lemon juice. Eat with tartar sauce.

I love good salmon patties, grew up on them. My Granny made them all of the time for us. Fried crisp, cornmeal only, squirt lemon juice on as you eat them.

My grandad made a 3 month trip to Alaska when he retired. He brought back a travel trailer full of canned salmon. He found an Indian woman that would can it for him on the halves. We were still eating on it 10 years after he died. I like it.

Yep the bones chewed up just fine. Good memories of those patties. The more they keep printing money the more that type of protien may become common place again.

Canned salmon, or canned tuna, along with Frito scoops and a Shiner is often my dinner at the deer lease. Although lately I have turned to the foil packages due to simplicity in opening.
