Worth the Work and Wait?? You Bet!!

Worth the Work and Wait?? You Bet!! - 02/11/21 10:33 PM

When we were down in Matagorda in Nov., we spent a couple hours picking up fresh pecans down by the creek, that the darn hogs hadn't managed to find. The wife and I sat at the kitchen island, and shelled a box of them this morning. It would be prettier, but I put in double pecans, the way my GrandMa taught me!!

Heck, I think I was about 16 years old, before I knew there was any syrup besides Karo or molasses!! Why the heck would you put tree sap on your flapjacks??

MMMM love me some pecan pie!

Pecans always taste better when you shell them yourself. I remember sitting on my grandmas deck as a kid with my brother for hours cracking and eating pecans with a ball peen hammer.

Hand shelled pecans make the pie so much better. My grandparents have a pecan tree in their yard and for the holidays she used to make pecan pies with the pecans from the tree, the pies were always one of my favorite part of the holidays. In her older age, shes gotten lazy and just uses store bought pecans.

I also have lots of good memories sitting on the front porch with my grandpa and cousin shelling pecans and eating them.

That pie looks delicious though, definitely gets my approval.
