I have a foodsaver and have used it for years. It works well, but I have to press down on it for it to seal properly. It's been like that since I bought it. Depending on how much you would like to spend I would go with Weston

There was an earlier post about a Weston on here a few weeks ago. It's $800.00, but you only buy it once.

I've had a large Foodsaver for probably 5-6 years. Upside is that I've processed numerous deer, hogs, fish etc with it and it's still going strong. Downside is the speed in which you can seal the first side and flip to seal the second one. If you're putting up a bunch of stuff it takes some time. Bags aren't cheap but once in the freezer they hold up well. Ate some squash at Thanksgiving I put up probably 3 years ago and it was still very fresh tasting.

The Weston Pro 2300 is the model I have been looking at. You can get it for 399 if you can catch it in stock at a few places. Should be easier to catch in stock after the holidays.

I got a cheap one from Amazon, because I didn't know how much I'd use it. Turns out I use it for a lot of things. Mostly used for food stores in mylar bags. I did 21 home made MRE's a couple of weekends ago and its worked great. Learning where to put the bag is the hardest part. Once the bag is in the correct place it works like a champ.

Mine I use to just close and let it do its thing, now I have to press down on it and it's really becoming annoying. It's a 12 year old vacuum sealer so the $100 I spent on was worth it. However I have noticed it is starting to take longer to vacuum and seal.

My father has a chamber sealer and that this is awesome, here is the one he has: VacMaster

As far as bags go, I buy the premade ones, not only does it save a lot of time it also helps with portioning. Pint Bags Quart Bags

I think my food saver was around $100. I'm not disappointed in it. I've had it for a few years, but it has just never worked correctly. It has always worked though. The speed sucks when it comes to processing a deer. There really isn't anything wrong with the foodsaver if you don't want to spend the money. But those Westons sure are nice.

We have an older FoodSaver unit that cost about $100. It works fine for the amount we use it, as most of our leftovers and prepared foods are used well within 3-6 months. A lot just goes in Tupperware containers. For game meat (deer, elk, etc.) it is much faster for me to wrap in Saran-Wrap, then white butcher paper. The kids and grandkids all love venison, so it's like having food termites!! We are always out of meat before the next season anyway, so multi-year storage is not an issue.

My friend in Texas who's a fishing guide processes literally hundreds, if not thousands of bags of filets every year. He swears by his larger FoodSaver 4800. While we were there this past month, we put up about 10-15 bags of fish and shrimp daily.
